Remember that the Amazon Chase Visa only gets you 3% on things sold by AMAZON. Everything else, on amazon, will get you 1%.

For Amazon, the Amazon store card is better (5% with prime, other perks I think), but it's a store card, not a Visa. The Chase Amazon you can use anywhere they take Visa. But IIRC it's just 1% for most things, I seem to remember drug stores and or department stores have some better % rewards. I opened mine while ordering something on Amazon years ago, but closed it and rolled the CL into another Chase card last year. So it sort of depends where you are credit-wise. $30 isn't a great reward if it isn't a card you want/need.

I have the Sallie Mae offering 5% on Amazon purchases. Capped at 750 but more than enough for me.
I have the Amazon store card offering 5% on purchases. Uncapped.
I have Discover with the 5% Amazon category. Capped.
I have plenty of Visas.

My Chase Amazon offering an uncapped 3% would be obsolete if not for the fact that it's great about offering BTs when I truly need them. Chase Amazon = BT card.

It all comes down to your needs and how the rewards compare to whatever else you currently have. Looking for 2% on gas, restaurants, and drugstores? Amazon Visa offers that too.

AF waived 1st year and you are going to burn a HP anyway, make it count. Just my opinion because once you get a Chase product, getting more out of them is pulling teeth.

The Amazon chase also offers 3 points for restaurants/fast food.. which is similar to the AARP except only usable at Amazon. If you view this as not mattering, it's a good thing.

I've had the Chase Amazon Visa and the Amazon Store card.

I ended up cancelling the Visa. Toy limit, hard pull inquiries to grow, rewards weren't as good for it's main purpose: Amazon.

I had other cards for spending elsewhere. Plus the store card is Synchrony, so easy soft pull CLIs.

Aside from the 5% of the store card, the every day 0% financing is wonderful!

I've had a Chase Amazon on a few occasions (2013, 2015). Currently, mine is sitting in a drawer awaiting the day I decide to consolidate it into my Hyatt or IHG cards. It's a card that I believe was probably somewhat decent in the past, but it's almost impossible for it to really be competitive in today's credit card landscape for creditworthy customers. I don't really like the Amazon Prime store card much, however, it's obviously a more gainful product for frequent Amazon shoppers. Personally, I rely on the Citi Forward (5x points for 6.25%), Barclays Sallie Mae (5%), and U.S. Bank Cash+ (5%) for my Amazon purchases. The latter is still available for applicants.

I've seen the $80 offer on a few occasions.

The Amazon Visa offered 3% before other cards were available. If you're a Prime subscriber, the Amazon Prime card also earns 5% back at Amazon. The Amazon Visa still offers 2% back on a few other select categories, and 1% anywhere else Visa is accepted, so it can still be a good card to carry. In the early '00s they offered both a consumer and a business (no longer offered) version. I have gotten other cards, but I still use the Amazon Visa cards from time to time.

Our Amazon Visa Card started with an SL of $5,000 in 2011. Fast forward to 2015, we got a letter from Chase offering a soft pull CLI with an invitation code to enter online. Put the information in and out limit doubled to $10,000. January of 2016 we saw an Auto CLI bringing our current CL to $13,000.

Chase has been great to us and in lieu of Amazon points most of the time we just ask for a $200 statement credit. We run a few thousand through it each month which I'm sure is why we've gotten the CLI's that we have.

All in all, great card!

I have personally derived very little utility from the card since receiving it 12 months ago. I typically just stock up on Amazon gift cards during appropriate quarters using Freedom/Discover (since I don't have the store card or a Sallie Mae). 3% is just not very enticing... Plus my limit of $500 sucks. Might just roll it into my Freedom sooner or later.

This is actually my fill-in-the-gaps card. Whenever Discover doesn't have a 5% Amazon category (it is also when I don't shop on Amazon that much, but there are always items I need now and then), I use the Chase Amazon card. There's also 2% restaurant, which yes I sometimes just use the Double Cash for, but sometimes I spread out the utility since the DC is my general spend card as well (most of the time, for a month now and then I'll break out the QS). Rarely ever go to drug stores though. And since it's a Visa signature, I have been thinking about doing the Napa wine tasting thing for a while.

I'm not fan of store cards that can't be used anywhere else, which is why I don't want the Amazon store card.
