Now I have late 2017 to apply for this thing...but that doesn't mean I can't start researching now.

It's a paper app. Ok...ill get the ball rolling and email them!

No response.

Website says stores carry the app! I'll visit one! Marukai Living, SD.

Woman looks at me, "No....we don't have that here." I swear to Buddha. I point at the JCB logo to add emphasis "Noooooo"

Its gonna take 2 years to just see the paper application.

I'm curious...what sort of spending do people put on the Marukai card? It seems kind of inconvenient, since I've heard it doesn't always work on the Discover network, has an AF, doesn't have much of a bonus, etc.

I stopped using mine, it's too much of a pain. Almost everything needs to be done by phone and/or mail, they also give out really low credit lines, they won't budge on anything above 12K for me, claiming it's as high as they go.

As for acceptance, I've had mine rejected several times at Discover accepting stores and some smaller stores will flat-out refuse to swipe it.

And people here once actually wanted this, instead of only apping for it as a penalty?

It has an annual bonus that more than cancels out the AF, as long as you are hitting 5k/calendar year.

Never had it rejected at a physical swipe point that takes Discover, never had it approved online on a site that takes Discover. Lots of places in the Bay area accept JCB outright. Most big chains do too (target, pier 1, walgreens, etc).

Never had a problem paying online like any other card. Phone support had been good to me the one time I called. Low CL so it should be PIF before statement cuts, but otherwise nothing especially hard about the card.

I do want the Marukai and the CSP. Last 2 cards for my Arsenal. My spending fits nicely to make up for the AF AND I actually shop at the Marukai Marketplace.

Freq trips to SF from SD. DBF and I are planning a trip to Taiwan in 2017. I've been asking his parents, they have no probs with JCB there, their American version card.

Themanwhocan's charts helped me a lot tailor what works in the cash back world.
