Thanks for the information.

I tried the $1,500 on a $12,500 Cash+ last year, and it was simply denied. No HP, but no CLI either.

Now, you should watch for and report whether you get an auto CLI in the next couple of months. If you got this card in July 2015, 9 months or so after that will be March - April. All three of my open US Bank cards seemed to get auto CLI at about the 9 - 10 month timeframe, regardless how heavily or lightly they were used.

Good luck! With time this card should grow, though I'd suggest a bit more usage on the card.

Just wanted to share my experience with them, as I read through all the posts suggesting that typically for 1500 or lower they do a soft pull.

Background: I applied for a Cash+ in July 2015, received instead a 1k SL Cash Rewards. Have had my ~ $115 cell phone bill autopaying on it to show some use, and auto-PIF set on the card since day 1.

Opened 3 other cards at the same time as this; CapitalOne QS (3k SL, 3K luv button CLI to 6k at 6 months), Citi TYP (2K SL, 1.5k SP cli at 6 months), and Barclays Sallie Mae (1300 SL, 3.3k SP auto-CLI at 6 months).

So... I figured it was at least worth checking with US Bank to see if they were going to work with me on CLI's as well. After scouring the forums here it seemed reasonably likely that if I used the 'request a credit limit increase' page for $1500 or lower of CLI, it should be a soft-pull only, if they even did anything.

I submitted a request for $1500 increase at night on February 8th (Monday), and received a notification of a hard inquiry posting to TU this morning February 14 (Sunday). Logged into US Bank to see if anything had happened and no change.

To be fair, the Barclays and Citi CLI's have not reported yet - nor has the zero balance on the C1 QS (I bought a new PC for Christmas and had an $1800 balance report for January - balance currently back to zero).

Long story short: US Bank may do a HP even for lower-amount CLI requests. YMMV.

This is why I strongly recommend keeping the credit reports frozen.

While it's possible that an existing lender may still access your report, most lenders in my experience (for reference, see lenders in my signature) only SP through the freeze when they have existing relationship.

That also means that if the lender must HP, they see the freeze and (again, in my experience) by courtesy, notify the customer that a CLI cannot be offered unless the freeze is lifted. This happened with Chase (for any CLI request) and with US Bank (for $2k requests). Chase sent me an SM asking to lift the freeze. US Bank sent me denial letters saying my report could not be found. Interestingly, they provided me with my TU Bankcard score.

Once they come back to you asking for the freeze lifting, you can decide whether the HP CLI is worth it.

Honestly it just slipped my mind because I was (incorrectly) reasonably certain that they would not do a HP. Hindsight and all that

Unfortunate, but hey at least now I know for certain that they absolutely can and do HP even for lower amount CLI requests.

In the last 6 months I've brought all 3 scores up from 640-650 to 690-710, and am holding out for a CSP app since I am at 4/24 right now and I would like to make that my travel card. Freedom has been showing for me since December on their prequal but I would rather get CSP first and wait (as probably necessary) to switch cards around and bring a Freedom into the mix.

Thanks again everyone for the input - I had not run across the suggestion to freeze reports before, and definitely would not have submitted the USBank CLI request if I had felt that there was a strong likelihood of them doing a HP for it (even though my INQ's are not high: TU 7, EX 4, EQ 1).
