With CapOne it's mostly YMMV. Depends a lot on your whole credit profile rather than just a credit score.

I recently app'd for two cards; Chase Freedom and approved for $3500, and Capital One Quicksilver approved for only $300. I just got my CapOne card in the mail and was considering calling in to ask for a recon of credit limit. Are there success stories to this or should I leave it alone?

Use it 5 months and credit steps will give a nice bump of recon fails. My QS started at 750. Was bumped to 3750 at the 5th statement.

They told me I can request a CLI via their automated line or online and that it is not a hard pull, and that it will not affect my credit score. They also informed me of the 5 month 'guideline'.

You can recon. Do you have other credit cards with Cap1? Best of luck!

You should be able to request a CLI after your 3rd statement, regardless of Credit Steps or not. If you're trying to recon now, you may want to contact the EO for a manual review. However, it really depends on your credit profile. What are you CRs and FICO scores like?
