BOA Americard to Rewards Card??? Anyone??

Finally got in with BOA with a Bank of America Americard. Really want to PC to a BOA 123 rewards card. Not sure how to do it - does anyone know if that's possible and if so when is it alright to do it?

How long have you had it? I don't know that there's a hard and fast policy, but I doubt you'd be able to do the PC now if you just opened the account. If it's been a few months or longer, you just can call the customer service line and request a product change. It takes a few weeks to occur, though. Have to have patience for sure.

Just a regular card - not student or secured. And to answer you and KDM, just literally got it. But I wasn't sure if that was time to call in and see if they'd change it or if I was supposed to wait some allotted amout of time.

I'd say it's probably best to wait but if you are curious, you can always ring BOA and see if the PC can be done this soon since you just got the card. It would provide some good data points for others.

Sure, in the interest of science Report back as soon as you know Dahlia. BOA's PC policies tend to fluctuate from time to time so it could be pretty valuable information for some who have similar PC situations.

It is possible. Mine started as secured around 3/2014, unsecured 1/2015 and finally PC'd to TravelRewards 10/2015. I began pestering them around 2/2015 to convert it to BBR (tried like 6-7 times) and they kept offering CashRewards instead. So IME, at least after 1 year they would do it. Good luck!

-took a minimum of 14 days to see the PC on my account.

**Unsatisfied that BankAmericard didn't offer any rewards, on the 9th of this month I decided to PC it again to a Travel Rewards Sig (received approval call within 24 hours)

- hitherto, "BankAmericard" still shows in my account.

**BofA is brutally slow with PCs -in MY experiences.

**Good bank. Not a single CL request has ever been denied.

P.S. Navy Federal takes no longer than 36 hours for PCs -and again, in MY experience.

I'm just confused why you took the intermediate step of PCing to the no-reward Americard if you wanted rewards, ultimately?

Short answer: Because I have other reward(s) cards.

In the end, I figured I'd just PC it to a Travel Rewards and put four (4) recurring, monhtly bills and let it accumulate points -without me even "trying" to use it.

EDIT: I didn't "untimately want rewards." It's just a card that I decided to change it to. You didn't think I only had this one card, didn't you?

No, I just didn't understand the benefit of PCing to a non-reward product if you were going to PC to a reward product immediately after (especially with how long they take to do PCs!).

I have my BofA platinum plus visa, I had it since 2003. If I wanted to switch it to the cash rewards, how does the PC work, do they need to do a hard pull, check my history/score?

very easy, we got it done in less than a few weeks on a nearly new accoung (less than 5 weeks old). no HP. You may even be able to get the bonus honored as well? I would try doing this first. Then you would get $100.

If they say no to bonus, why would you want to do it when you could apply for the AICPA $175 bonus instead. Unless you have high inqs, too many new accounts, and low AAOA, its worth a shot. Pair that app with a Better Balance Rewards, and throw $300 into a savings, and that way you will get $120 a year.

I PC'd my alumni association's MC to Cash Rewards. No hard pull or anything. Just called up and asked. PC takes a pretty long time though--3-4 weeks to get a new card. You get to keep the terms of your old card as well, so if you have a low APR, that is good. I was surprised that my new card arrived looking exactly the same as my old card with the school logo and everything, but with "Bank Americard Cash Rewards" included.

GeorgiaBulldog, I also have a BankAmericard rewards world, Penn State Alumni Association. On that one I get the point per dollar spent. I have a much higher limit on that card and its my main card I use for everyday purchases.

If I were to switch that card to cash reward, your saying I would keep my school logo and everything else on it? Also were you able to benefit from any of the offers they give like 100 credit when spend certain amount in few months? I would at least benefit fromt he gas and grocery. I am very temped to open up the Citi double cash for all my other purchases. I heard that citi double cash gives low credit limits, and they do multiple hard pulls, can anyone contirm this?

I've been with BOA 25+ years, even prior to the NationsBank, Merrill, FIA mergers/acquisitions but that's irrelevant to the OP's question. And, while I've never encountered any major issues, the statement that I made regarding the PC policies is because they change from time to time with certain products.

The OP's question wasn't about the PC process per se, if you read the details, the OP was interested in knowing whether their freshly approved non-CR card could be PC'd right away. The reason for my statement is because sometimes BOA changes certain PC policies even within their own sub-product families. For instance, if an individual has a standard Cash Rewards card (non affinity), unless the request is processed correctly, the system may restrict PC'ing the product to say... a Susan G Komen CR or a WWF CR, by the same token PC'ing from a Visa Signature to WMC or viceversa.

Likewise, there are products that cannot be PC'd (depending on the rewards structure or pragram), such as the restriction to BBR (can PC out of it but not into it). Additionally, the Platinum Privileges (Travel & Cash Rewards) products are no longer offered and cannot be PC'd any longer - I still have the Platinum Privileges Cash Rewards and has not converted into anything else.

Bottom line, the OP was going to check with BOA for data points on whether an immediate PC would be honored given the recent approval of a non-CR product.
