BofA Alaska Air - PC?

I havent used this card much and would like to maximize it and use more if anyone has advice on doing so? If not what are the options for a PC to one of their other cards with out the AF, which is about to pop up in a few months?

BoA is pretty willing to approve a PC to something like the Cash Rewards card with no AF. Problem is they will more than likely do a HP to accomplish it.

IIRC, PC's with BOA do not require a HP - only if the OP is wanting to reallocate CL from the Alaska Airlines card to another BOA card (or combine both accounts). I think the OP can check to see whether the Alaska Airlines can be PC'd to Travel Rewards or Cash Rewards (except BBR or other affinity BOA cards) and see if that works.

FYI , it is a SP to move limits around. I know because I called back door recently and had this done.

I actually tried to PC my AK Air Visa Sig in January. I was told that this particular card could not be PC'd because it is a "branded" card by Alaska Airlines. Not sure if that was just the rep I spoke with; but it wasn't the answer I wanted to hear! She said she'd waive 1/2 of the AF for me...she did...and 2 days later they took it back!!!

I asked to PC two weeks ago and I was given two options, the cash rewards or the travel card. If you are trying to go from one partner card to another, they won't allow it, but they will allow partner card to non-partner card.

Which version of the AK Air card do you have?

With the VISA Signature, the annual fee gets you a reduced fare companion ticket, and first checked bag free, so if you've got a SO or friend who wants to go on a domestic trip, it's a nice feature.

The other option is to downgrade to the non-VS version AK Air card, with a $50 AF, which you get as a statement credit if you buy an AK ticket or checked bag fees. Does not have first checked bag free in this case, but for a once-a-year traveller, not a bad way to make it a no AF card, and keep something active on your AK Mile account. If you decide later you want to be more deliberate in earning AK miles, then upgrade back to VS.

FYI, regardless if you go the UW/analyst (aka back door) route, the results are mostly HP. In any event, it's YEMV, with the latter mroe prevalent. IME, some reallocations have been SP while other times it's been HP (but maximized with other CLIs) for better yields/results.

Thought I'd share my experience today with a PC on my two month old Alaska Airlines card. This was done via chat on the BofA website. It was so simple I'm wondering if it is for real

Me: is it possible to product change my Alaska Airlines card to one of the other cards issued by Bank of America?

BofA: Were you looking into a cash rewards or travel rewards card?

Me: Cash rewards

BofA: I will be more than happy to process that request today.

Me: Will you have to do a hard pull on my credit to complete the request?

BofA: Not at all!

Me: Great, thank you!

BofA: You should receive your new card in 2-4 weeks. (tons of disclaimer filler here)

Well, I'm still skeptical as to whether they did the PC or not. It just seemed too easy after only having it for two months.

I was told the first time that because it's a "branded" card through Alaska Airlines that it wasn't possible. Then I saw this thread. Oh well.

Just my two cents. I signed up for, and was approved for the 30,000 Miles offer last year in April. Now that it's time to pay the AF again, I called the standard customer service number to cancel the card. They transferred me over to retention. After I told them of my plan to cancel the card, the retention department basically walked me through doing a PC from the Alaska card to the Travel Rewards card with no AF. I asked if there was any credit check necessary, HP or SP, they said no. Just changing from one account to another.

I was very surprised by this given that, to me at least, BofA has traditionally been a big PIA to deal with.

Very different experience this time.

So my PC did go through for sure. It is showing on my online account with the new card type. I noticed the last 4 digits of the card are different so I wonder how this will show on my reports. Still waiting for the new card to arrive.

I followed the chat example and was able to PC to the Cash Rewards card in five minutes. The new card showed up in my online profile about ten days later, and I just received an e-mail saying that it had been mailed out Monday. Thanks mattmyFICO!

Well this is disappointing..for me lol.

I've had this card for 7-8 years. Not sure why I keep getting turned down for a PC when others have success.

Thanks Matt for the update, though. I must keep getting the wrong csr's! I may call next month and speak to a credit analyst. Still 2 months before my AF hits me.

Not all cards can be PC'd, some are just plain not eligible (depends on product code assigned, etc). You can try your luck next month and see if at that point your card has that capability. Sometimes, there are CSRs who may not be fully aware of such PC features.
