others chose not to take it personally since it was clearly an attack against a group, not an indivdual. this may be precisely what prompted them to 'band together to collectively defeat the "man"- that they did this, perhaps, with the added sense of clarity and purpose they had as a result of ditching baggage... the baggage often caused by taking such things as a personal afront on an individual level outright. no?

of course taking their farm affected each person in personal ways whether or not it was called a 'personal' or 'business' action or whether it was legal or illlegal.

on a psychological level, people who take things too personally often choose not band together. they typically separate themselves from others. often feeling that no one truly understands their particular situation, they abstain from banding together with the group that ultimately they feel doesn't represent their concerns.

i appreciate your apparently highly well conceived replies, you've certainly got me off my butt and attempting to evaluate this state of affairs much more closely.

So I have been reading all the posts on AMEX lately and sure enough I saw a CLD today just got off the phone with them CANCELLED that POS card never used it anyways 0 balance for fear of exactly this now it feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders (that is horrible that a card is so bad makes you feel that way) anyhow life goes on I told them im taking my business to Discover. Ha Ha. Nothing bad at all on reports I think they saw my new mortgage pop up.
Message Edited by NowIcare on 11-14-2008 09:33 PM

Sorry they got you. And so true, these cards should not have to make us feel all nervous. Like there aren't enough things in life to worry about, we have to wonder if Amex is going to hit us with AA.

Discover will be happy, though.

I did get mad for about 2 seconds then realized I have so many more cards that deserve my business I do not "need" an AMEX. I felt so in control when I told the rep "OK" "Id like to go ahead and cancel the card" he insisted I wait for the reason and maybe it could be reinstated later. I said "no thank you id like to close it" to be honest felt so good cause the ball was in my court. I think anyone that get victimized by these jerks should gladly close the account might make them realize that people wont put up with this nonsense.

sorry about that, though it looks like they're getting fancier now. when they got me they didn't bother with such pleasantries. in fact, i didn't get an email or a letter if my recollection serves me.

i just logged on to my acct. and gasped when i looked at my new limit as being a fraction of my former self it's understandable that one would want to close an acct. if they feel they've been mistreated and want to abruptly end the business relationship. however, how you are dealing with it would seem to put you in the driver's seat more so than a reactionary, knee jerk closing of the acct., which can even damage your score. to each his own i guess.

I dont see how this could hurt me at all my utilities are very low and a zero balance on AMEX at time of closing and I have great prime banks that appreciate my business and as a matter of fact I already replaced the CL loss thru CLI on 3 of my other cards with no Hard Inq so now instead of waiting for AMEX to decide one day that they should shut me down I took it upon myself to have it show on my credit report "Closed at consumers request" I dont know about the rest but like I said before I will not stand around and "Hope" that AMEX will treat me good.
Message Edited by NowIcare on 11-15-2008 10:48 PM

See that's what you get for getting a mortgage. Amex like to see they're customers homeless with all of your money going to they're bonus points mall sites and only Amex name on your credit reports. I'm kidding but if they drop my limit down even $1 I'll closed the card. I havn't used the card in a long time and the last payment I sent was $30 to much so my CL was showing an extra $30 but I just checked and now it says $20. I want to know what they did with my $10 I'm guessing these other CC places should start sending Amex thank you cards for sending them all of they're business. Hope ya Discover card treats ya well
Message Edited by l9ikjam on 11-16-2008 05:01 AM

I am glad I got rid of them. I can't justify paying them an annual fee to sock drawer the low cl card. The card is basically useless (especially the charge cards not helping utl whatsoever). Also, is it me or are the reps getting a little attitude? As for dropping fico scores upon closing, I just don't see that happening, plus they'll be on credit reports for 10 years with the quote " closed per consumers request" At least I closed it before they did!

huh? weren't you just saying that you are v. happy amex in another cld thread. i think you may have even mentioned something like you use it as a debit card and were sort of reveling in the fact that you hadn't had any problems/ really like the card?? did they cld you too or something some time after that?

@Anonymous wrote:
I am glad I got rid of them.
