Hi there, 1st post – thanks to all on the board, lots of good info here.

Long credit history, 6+ closed 3 year leases, closed mortgage – never missed a payment. have a current auto lease and one credit card – flawless history. I have 6 public records, tax related and 1 collection – in the process of getting the collection taken off because they lied about the last payment date. between a divorce and the recession a decade ago I was in bad shape. Anyhow, I am trying to do what I can do get in better financial state credit wise.

Cap1 has been good to me, they gave me my first card in a decade and it’s been a godsend. I currently have a QS WMC @ $ 8300.

Credit utilization had been an issue so I can see my scores fluctuate a lot. I would like another card as a backup and also a higher line on the one I have.

I was thinking of getting both a venture and also a cli on the QS. 6 months since my last CLI is in two weeks.

My question is what do I do first; the CLI on the existing card and then the venture or the reverse – also have noticed folks getting both a venture and qs on the same pull. below is my history with Cap1 and scores. I welcome all comments and suggestions that would increase my score and improve my appearance to creditors. says I am pre-approved on cap1 for venture and qs but I am open to dealing with other card companies. I am TOTALLY open to suggestions

Welcome to the board. People getting just one hardpull on each bureau for two cards is a YMMV. To answer your question posed, it doesn't matter whether you get the Venture card before requesting a CLI. There is no correlation between the two.

But if I were in your shoes, I request a CLI and then apply for the Venture...

Hi YIM, good advice which I just took - 8300>12,300 via the web. This will really help my utilization which is what I was looking for. I have a bad that should come off in ~10 days. I think my scores should be close to 700 by then so I might do the venture then unless you don't think it matters - I am ready to add another card and I figure its easier via CAP1 because of my direct history with them. next year I was going to add discover and a amex and that would be it. might even do the discover this year depending on how my scores look. feels good to not use a debit card for a change. thanks for what you do, your info is most helpful.
