sub prime cc and how you feel about it

After finally getting approved for some good cc (BoA travel, Discover it, Barclay Apple, US Bank flex + amex), been able to use them and getting rid of my credit one ccs, it's me or do you feel different ( proud) when paying on a restaurant with your Discover than with a sub-prime cc (Credit one)?, the first time I used one of my new card I found myself smiling lol, the thing is for the longest time I felt a little bit ashamed about my cc and if it wasn't for this forum I will still be there. Since I work on retail, every time I see somebody paying with a credit one card ( or any other subprime card) I wish I could tell them about this forum and how it has help me rebuilding my credit. I know Iam still far from where I want to be but it feels like a new beginning

Ofcourse it's nice to flash that good looking card (any AmEx, CSP, Arrival etc) to pay for that dinner or clothes you bought.. But I never really felt ashamed or embarassed using my creditone. Maybe because I only used it for small purchases here and there. It did help me a lot but it was time to get rid of it.

And yes, everytime I see someone pay with a very nice card I tend to wonder how their profile looks lol.

If the credit card I'm using suits my needs, regardless whether is an Amex or a Credit One, I really don't care what anyone says/thinks about it. There are people out there that really think a certain card gives "status" , btw OP I'm not referring to you. Seriously, I have seen people flashing their Amex Platinum like they are holding the Hand of Midas. In regard to "prime cards" a card stops being prime to me when is no longer useful but that's just me, you will find different opinions.

My starter cc was cap1 and HSBC, those others APRs are in the roof plus all the fees they add and some don't even have a grace period. But I see why people use them snyways.

Majority of ppl think a credit card is a credit card. I know when I worked retail I didn't care what card ppl pulled out and I even asked my GF who's a manager at her place does she pay attention and she said no. It's only because of this site would I pay attention to what someone pulls out while we are out eating. As long as you're not pulling out and EBT card know one will care what you have.

I think Credit One gets a bit of a bad rap. For folks who are coming out of bankruptcy and don't have cash to use towards a secured card, I think they are definitely an ok unsecured company/card to have. That said, as soon as I got a Barclays card and CLI on my Quicksilver, I closed my Credit One account...

HA I know what you mean. Been there done that....

I think the reality is though that the general consumer does not know the difference between a Credit One VISA and a Chase Freedom.

Some of us here are more prone to becoming hypersensitive to those things. The fact is most people pay little attention / care what card you pull.

Although you never know who you run into in the outside world that might be a forum member

Someone I know got a brand new credit one recently and my eyes lit up in shock....I was like don't ever do that again

LOL too true. I cant even get my wife to talk to me about it. Been begging her to kill her Credit One card for years.. Likes the look of the card or something.

I had a credit one when I was just starting out. It did it's as I now have Chase Freedom and Discover IT to show for it. I don't get into the vanity aspect of having the 'right' card to make purchases. I just go with what works.

There is a difference in simple vanity and using the best cards avaialble to you that earn rewards, cash back , no annual fees, no monthly service fees. blah blah blah.

Credit one is OK for building credit, but once you graduate there is no reason to continue using such a card.

Which is why it drives me nuts that my wife still has hers. Thankfully she started using the QS enough to notice a nice cash back pile growing. That Credit One card might finally be headed to the curb.

just to be clear i know a credit card is not going to defined who Iam, but still fun to get into this conversations, plus who else can i talk about credit cards and fico scores ahahhaha (seriously we need to find a hobby lol). The reality is before finding this forum i really didnt care or wasnt aware of what is sup prime or prime for that matter. But iam not going to lie after years of building back my credit after a bk7 and a foreclosure feels really nice to be finally accepted by this banks.

Maybe it's because I don't have any "fancy" cards but I really don't care what my card is or who it's issued by in terms of using it in public. As long as the retailer swipes that bad boy and their terminal replies "approved" then that's all that matters to me. And really, do you think many folks in the general public know (or care) if a card is issued by a subprime lender? Besides, who isn't a "sub-prime" lender anymore? BoA, Amex, CapOne, Barclay, Citi and such I've seen here on this very forum issue cards to what some consider "subprime" credit scores. It's not like Amex is requiring 700+ scores anymore...you see 650+ approvals on here quite often. BoA even offers their cash rewards card in a secured form...as well as Citi and others. So, don't feel ashamed because you swiped a Credit One card...use your card proudly regardless of who the issuer is.

I took a month away from the boards because I was trying not to app for anything. I found out that my wife really DOES NOT like to talk about credit other then letting her know what card to use for what. She is very happy that i'm back on here talking with everyone. I'm with Doro, this is my favorite subject.
