I have most of the cards I need, a few I'm consolidating, but in the next 18 months I'm going to work on a couple LOC's and perhaps a new card every 6 months if any stand out.

When I'm within the 5/24 rule I'm going to pickup the CSP!

Going to try for the Ink Plus in 3 months, unless it's added to the 5/24 rule.

Well April is here and I think we will see less activity on the Approvals forum because of the 5/24 rule.

I have seen a denial for Marriott on credit pull database because of this.

How long do you have?

I have to wait until 4/17 but apping for Prestige may change that.

For me to be under 5 new cards in the past 2 years I will also have to wait until April 2017 - but that's cutting it close. If I wait until May 2017, I'll be golden.

My apps are soo spread out so I don't know anymore. My last personal app was 3/5, but prior to that were some business apps which won't count against the 5/24. If I had to guess I have at minimum 9 months before I could go for another chase app and even in that scenario I think I would only be able to pick up one additional card. If I wait a year maybe I can get two cards. The problem is I intend to do future apps in another coupls of months and I don't see the value in passing on everything just for the chance to app for another chase card. I have or can PC into pretty much any chase card I want and the ones I did not pick up are not very high priority for me at this point and for the cards I currently have that I would want to churn there is no guarantee if I wait the signup bonus will be nearly as good. If chase came out with some longterm amazing signup offers then I might think about waiting but for people who have the actual chase cards they would want to use long term I don't see much incentive in waiting and foregoing every other lender out there.

I'm at the point where I have most the cards I want and instead will likely be focusing on business cards for the most part, which won't impact 5/24 as long as they are not reporting on my personal credit. For people starting out or rebuilding then yes it is going to be a few years before they can get all the chase cards they want.

I don't get the obsession with Chase cards. I'm just starting my credit history, 6 months in with only 1 card, but I don't really care for any of their co-branded cards. The airline/hotels I like to travel with just aren't a Chase product. I am definitely keeping the 5/24 rule in mind, though. I could see myself getting the Freedom or Sapphire Preferred.

@LaKings, Chase is kind of unrivaled in their UR point utility, I'm sure MR with amex are solid, but once you actually start doing the math, UR are so valuable(and I don't mean the "value" like the points guy comes up with at like 2 cents per point).

I fly SW alot and SW points are worth 1.6 points a piece, since UR is 1:1 to sw, each UR for me is 1.6 right off the bat. With my CSP, restaurant and dining are 3.2 a piece by default at Sw valuation.

I use Sw and haven't done the math for their other partners but there's so many that I don't think you can 'not fly' or use any of their partners. ITS LIKE EVERYONE.

I love my discover, unfortunately I didn't get double cash so that's kind of neutered there, I'd love a freedom far more since it would be 1.6 by default also to me. Lots of cards just can't compare to be honest.

Citi points don't have good cashback value and not as many transfer partners.
Amex BC/P is good for groceries/gas. Amex ED is good for those who swipe a good bit and can make use of the MR(I haven't done enough hw to know how good they are).
Cap1 Qs is a solos beginner, but is quickly and easily outgrown, same for venture really.
Discover is very valuable if you have double cash, less so if you don't(really just depends if you can pump their categories)

Tldr: chase is very versatile while also being valuable, their cards build on top of eachother assuming you have a UR portal card. The freedom, unlimited, and CSP are really an insane combo and I can't wait to use ONLY those three in year.

But I literally don't fly with any of their partners. Domestically I only fly JetBlue and Delta, and I use Delta for international flights pretty frequently too. I really can't stand United, the only advantage there is having access to airlines like SWISS Air through the Star Alliance.

Each program has their good and bad I guess, it just seems like Chase is way overhyped. I'm in a position where I'm 4 cards under the 5/24 rule, and no Chase cards are really calling me.

Well, being that I just scored BIG time with Chase, I plan on sitting out any new apps for 24 months. So that all of these INQ s can go to hell.
I don't think I need any more Chase cards in this lifetime.

I am unhappy with Chase that both with the readily acknowledged 5/24 for personal and the threatened 5/24 for busniness and co-branded, they make themselves seem more valuable. They bump themselves up in my plans. B#%^#%&s.

I went for InkPlus before I would have otherwise, due to the threat. I'm having DH not app for other things like the SPG or Hilton deals, as I have him waiting for CSP and will likely get IHG at the same time. As long as AU's don't count, he should be good the end of May. I think. I thought I'd PC the InkPlus to the Ink Cash if he gets CSP. But...who knows.

Everyone's unhappy with it, but it's their business move, hardly rude of them to try to weed out those who just want to use cards just for the bonus.
And I mean, it's our choice to app or not app for a card to hold out for their cards/partner cards. If it's worth holding out for, doesn't that in itself prove its valuable? Just like some people think they'll never have a chase card, they just don't believe crew cards are valuable enough, except there's a good amount that will garden for them, myself included(kind of shows their value). I'd literally only use 3 chase cards if I could for everyday use(lone exception I would make is BCP for groceries)

@Anonymous wrote:
Everyone's unhappy with it, but it's their business move, hardly rude of them to try to weed out those who just want to use cards just for the bonus.

Pretty much this. We can debate about it forever, whether it's fair, not fair, or rude, or not rude, but ultimately it's a business move and for now it is what it is. You either wait until you are eligible or you go to other lenders. Not like there's anything one can do about it.

With regard to the above, I agree Chase can seem overhyped, but guess it comes down to whether or not you travel/use the partners. If not, there are better cards out there for cash back, IMO. But for travel, they have some good partners (but they do lack some major domestic ones, as noted).

Got what I wanted / needed for Chase cards so the 5/24 does not hurt my plans. To answer your question though, if the 5/24 sticks and is applied strictly then I will be sitting on the bench until 2018 But there are always exceptions and loopholes I have no doubt.
