Ya real close it appears to being done.. Wonder if BofA will acquire the CC portfolio and be changed into Alaska Airlines CC's? I saw this and wondered that... I was going to cancel my virgin america CC, but seeing this I might keep it.. Trying to get rid of my two comenity cc's

As much as I don't like Comenity, I am going to be very sad if VX is sold off and doesn't exist anymore. It is my goto airlines and I would have to find a substitute and that may not be Alaska Airlines.

Yeah, just read MJ's links. It appears that Alaska is close to a deal that "may" be announced on Monday.

I was hoping VX will retain some independent, especially since SFO's T2 was supposed to be "their" hub, much like JFK's T5 is JetBlue's. In my view, Virgin America has the best first class product in the industry, since upgrades are never given away for free, even to their Elites or Senior Execs. Over the years, I've always preferred to pay for their premium product more so than the legacy ones, who give away 90% of their premium domestic seats.

I'm hoping VX will remain independent, since I'm not a huge fan of Alaskan Airlines.

Ya they might stay independent.. For whatever reason I thought virging atlantic sir richard owned it, but was I ever wrong lol.. Just used his name I am guessing. Alaska airlines just wants more routes I am guessing as VA was not profitable until this last year or something? Just curious if merger happens will comenity be forced to sell to bofa.. I can only hope so

Me too.

From their humble beginnings in 2007, I've been rooting for them to grow and ultimately become my main Carrier from SFO. At this point, I'm so tired of the legacy Airlines that I found VX's product both refreshing and a huge improvement over the UA, AA, and DL. My plan was to burn all of my legacy Miles for premium cabin Int'l flights and begin flying VX.

A merger/takeover with Alaska may be a deal breaker for me, since they're just a smaller legacy airline to me. These days, I prefer flying F and will refuse to pay money for any F class domestic flights, since the legacy carriers, unlike VX, give them all away for free. No way I'm going to subsidize this practice.

If the recent mergers are any guide, eventually Virgin America will lose its culture in favor of Alaska, the acquirer. While I understand the original shareholders would love to sell the company and cashout (I sure would), it'll take away an appealing option for those who fly out of SFO. With my hard earned money, I'd have to say I'm more willing to pay for VX's product over that of any other domestic Airline.

I mean, it isn't even close when you compare their product to the Legacy's, who are only worth when using Miles or Corp reimbursement. I can't imagine paying real money to fly the Legacy carriers, unless it's the cheapest coach fare available.

Obviously, I have on the Airline program for the disloyal.

LOL...yeah, I was hoping for an eventual JetBlue takeover/merger, which I find makes much more sense. They really don't have competing routes, both potentially disruptive to established carriers, and will force greater competition that will benefit consumers.

Having both their CCs with SFO and JFK would work nicely for me.

@Considered SPG @ 35k bonus up until the last minute glad I didn't pull the trigger since Marriott won the bidding war ....Oh well

I still like the transfer options associated with SPG but not sure what the future value is worth so I'll probably bypass

JetBlue is still on my radar but I'm a Lil hesitant for worth....so doing my homework

I guess I will have to switch to JetBlue because I find AS very different company to what I want. Only issue is now I will have to start all over again with JetBlue, collect points, apply for CC when I can. Why can't AS just back off and Mr. Richard steps back for a second and say "Hey wait a min, I think I should just keep this and not sell it"

I'm from the school of thought to always do the opposite of what "they" say. In this case, when Marriott keeps insisting nothing will change, the more I'm convinced it will change not only drastically, but at an even faster pace. Typical devaluation 101. Keep the currency in house, then lower the hammer.

So, with Marriott winning, I'm cashing out all SPGs, and whatever remaining, all goes to Krisflyer. I'll resort to redeeming premium cabin flights for all of my family and friends within the 3 years expiration before letting Marriott devalue them. Unlike JetBlue, who actually has a product I'm willing to pay for, Marriott doesn't, aside from their Ritz properties, which has largely remained independent and untainted. At this point, assuming Amex will lose SPG, I'm no longer using my SPG card. If Amex saves the relationship or retains the programs value, then I'll reconsider my decision. But, at this point, it's burn SPG and accumulate Marriott/Ritz points. This quarter, Hyatt will get my 25 nights for (1) no longer vested in Starwoods, and (2) the 75K promo. Moving forward, I may just move over all of my prior Starwoods stays over to Hyatt, since I have Diamond this year.

JetBlue offers a very competitive transcon product on their Mint class. A $599 Mint closed cabin flight from SFO - JFK represents the best domestic premium flight value, in my view. Also, the T5 lounge in JFK offers complimentary access to Amex Plat holders, which works very nicely with JetBlue. On non-Mint class flights, which currently is any non-SFO/LAX - JFK transcon, legroom is more spacious than any other coach experience.

AS appeals for some because of free F upgrades and international partners.

For me, I don't require either. These days, I'm no longer a frequent flyer and couldn't care less about elite status. When it makes sense, I will pay for an F seat, which is especially appealing with VX, since it's NEVER given away for free. AS offers free F upgrades to their Elites, which I have no interest in subsidizing. And, as to International fligths, I don't need or equire AS partners. I can get the premium cabin stuff on my own.

I use VX and B6 purely for their F transcon experience, since I refuse to pay for it on the Legacy's. The *only* exception would be AA's single seat transcon from SFO/LAX to JFK, since I'd much rather not have a seatmate when flying to NY for business purposes.

Anyway, after my Corp life, I have never paid for any F fare when it's offered widely as a free upgrade, and never will.

I read an article in my research of JetBlue and was surprised by the #1 leg room and IIRC pitch of seat not to mention the freebies others charge for ....all at a price that's good even out of pocket

They really have my attention and it wouldn't take much to send me over the edge ...I mean app ....I mean burn a HP
