Anyone approved for a CitiBank Secured with prior BK?

I know there are a ton of threads regarding the CitiBank Secured Credit Card. I am wondering how many of you have been approved for this card with a previous BK. I have a Ch 7 and Ch 13 on my record, and I am in the process of rebuilding my bruised credit. My first BK is 4 years old and the second is 2 years old from filed (paid in full Dec 2015). Is it too soon for me to apply or should I give it a shot?

The first time I filed I was laid off from job and I defaulted on loans subsequently. The second time I filed for the 13 I did so because my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, medical bills went through the roof, had to take off from work to get her through chemo, almost lost my home, so I filed to save our house and pay off medical bills and other debts. It is definitely something I am embarrassed to say. I'm not proud of having to file for BK twice, but I had no choice. So now I'm rebuilding. My home is saved, my family is doing well, and my credit is being restored slowly. Thanks for asking though.

With Citibank it's 2 year post bk is when you can apply

I applied for the secured card right at two years post discharge. They declined me citing the bankruptcy as the only reason.

They have a minimum of two years requirement, but that doesn't mean it's automatic. My scores were very good, no inquiries, etc. I did have about 100K in credit. Maybe they didn't like that.

I intend to apply again at the three year mark.

I think they double pulled me too. I know Experian was one. I forget who the second pull was with.

Does this mean 2 years from filing or from discharge? I'm assuming the latter. I've heard of some people being approved with a BK less than 2 years, but I'm sure it's rare.

With chp 7 it's discharge date

No problem Darwin. I'm also wondering about the 2 requirements. My Ch. 7 is 4 years old, but I wonder how do they feel about a Ch. 13. That's more recent, although I paid my debts in full.

I have not tried a credit union or Bank of America. I did have a Navy Federal card but it was closed during my last BK. It was paid off. I was hoping to let my new CC age at least a year before I reapply for NFCU.

The Discovery Secured is a great card to have. I'm coming up on my 1 year with it on Friday. Hopefully it unsecures. And good luck on your path of repairing your credit.

First off I am glad to hear your daughter is doing better. Secondly do not feel embarrassed about having to file bankruptcy. Life happens and we must do what we have to do to get through it. Bankruptcy exists for scenarios like yours and thankfully so.

As others have stated you might want to consider a secured discover card if you are looking into a secured card. Citi will tie up your money for a minimum of 18 months before graduation is considered, opposed to 12 months with Discover. Discover allows you to add additional funds to increase your limit, citi I have read does not. Most importantly discover gives you all the rewards just like you had a regular discover card whereas citi's card offers nothing but a high intrest rate. The call is yours and I wish you the best of luck in your rebuild.

Thank you all for the feedback. Since a few of you are mentioning the discover card I will definitely look into this. Do you think I will qualify for this card with my recent BK? I thought discover was not BK friendly.

Discover usually prefers thin files and have been very BK friendly to some even with their unsecured cards.

That's good to hear. Aside my debts IIB or paid off, I only have two open capital one cards and a fingerhut account.
