How accurate is AMEX's card finder tool?

I went on AMEX's site and tried the card finder. It came back with the AMEX Everyday card and the Blue Cash Everyday card for me. At the top of the page it said "We have found the following pre-qualified offers for you." Does that mean that I am pre-qualified for these cards? I have scores in the 640s according to my Capital One Creditwise score.

Maybe, but I'll let the experts chime in.

I used it to get my first 2 Amex cards (ED and PRG) when my score were that low. However, I haven't seen a prequal since (not even a mailer) and I was just approved for the BCE and Delta Gold Skymiles. Good Luck!

It's fairly accurate but just like all preapproval sites, does not guarantee that you will be approved when you apply. As for your score, ignore what CapOne says as that score is a Vantage 3.0 score which is barely, if at all, used by creditors. Amex uses an Experian FICO 08 score so you would be in much better shape to know if you'll be approved if you find out that score.

Amex pre qualified offers are pretty reliable. Amex pulls Experian and Cap One bases their fake score off of something else. Your score is likely higher than you think, if in doubt pull a real fico EX score to make sure, otherwise I think your good to go.

Thanks for the response guys! I am probably not going to apply at this time as I just opened a discover secured card to get my score up a little bit more. I just tried the card finder tool to see what it said. Is there anywhere to get my Experian score for free or would I have to pay for it?

You want a free Experian score? Problem solved. Amex offers cardholders a free EX score, so there you go, another reason to apply. Seriously though you'll have to pay for it otherwise. Good luck with whatever you decide to do though.

So I actually went through with the application, even though I was planning on going into the garden. My curiosity got the best of me. I was approved for the Everyday Card with a $1000 limit! I am shocked!! When I began building credit last year, I never would have thought that I would be able to get any type of AMEX card! I was always under the impression that they were extremely difficult to get! My scores must be higher than I thought in order to be approved. Now I am definitely going into the garden!!

Thanks! I am happy with the SL as I was not really expecting to be approved. I am just wondering about the rewards and how they work. Any info would be greatly appreciated. When the time comes, does AMEX do automatic CLI's? And if you request one, do they do a HP?

Amex does do auto CLIs from time to time but I wouldn't count on them. If you request a CLI, it is a SP. There is a large thread in the credit card applications forum dealing with the 3X Amex CLIs. Take a look at that thread. In short, 61 days after you activate the card, ask for a CLI to $3K. If you're approved, you can ask for another 3X CLI in 181 days. If denied, you have to wait 91 days to try again.

Did you not take advantage of the 2 for 1 special?

With my first Amex, I applied for the ED first and the PRG as well...all from the same HP. Did it again about a month ago and got another 2 for 1 lol. But let the experts tell it.

With my first cards, the ED the SL was $1000 like you. At 90 days, I got the 3X CLI to $3000 and in 180 after, I got another 3X CLI and now sit at $9000. My BCE I got last month SL is $5000 but the Delta (which I got the same day as the BCE) is only $1000 which I know will grow so I'm not tripping.

No, you're right. OP can try for a second card but it needs to be a charge card like the Green, PRG or Platinum cards, not a revolver. Most likely they will use the same HP.

I was looking at other posts on the forum and saw about the 2 for 1. But I am unsure what the difference is between the charge cards and the cards like the one I got? I am reluctant to try for one of the charge cards because none of them came up on the pre qualifier when I tried it, where the green one was about a month ago when I tried it.

The card you were approved for is a revolver like the vast majority of credit cards. These allow you to carry a balance from month to month if you so desire. The Amex charge cards I listed are 'charge' cards that need to be paid in full every month. With these you charge something on them and they need to be paid completely off by the due date(there are exceptions to this but no need to get into that). These cards are really travel cards because, especially the PRG and Platinum, are designed for travelers and the points you earn are best used when transferred to travel partners. If you do not currently travel I would suggest you not apply for another card regardless of whether you can use the same HP because another card that is useless to you will hurt your AAoA. If you do travel currently, we can discuss which of these cards would be better for you.

Okay so when I applied for the BCE, I also applied for the Delta Skymiles Gold and they are both revolver cards. I only had 1 HP from both apps.
