I ahve only had the Chase Marriott and The Amex SPG. I really loved the Chase Marriott. A free night every year and Elite Status with Marriott got special priviledges. It was also easier to get points to add up for free nights. I really did not care for the SPG. I know people do like it on here, but I never could get any free nights, it was not worth it for me.

Without a doubt, the Chase Hyatt is my favorite. I really like the Hyatt Passport loyalty program, and the card's AF is quite reasonable for what it offers. I feel the program has a good balance in value and ease of acquiring points. Also, the Chase Hyatt is definitely the most inviting hotel card with its extremely generous sign up bonus.

Another favorite of mine is the Chase IHG. It's hard to go wrong with the IHG card given the unusually low AF and tremendous leeway given with its free anniversary night. The Platinum Elite status is quite valuable to me because, by extension, it also gives me Hilton Diamond Elite during status match promotions.

Finally, I never planned on keeping my Marriott card for as long as I have, but once again, the free anniversary night more than defrays the AF for this card. As a result, it's a keeper for me.

I have quite a bit of flexibility when I book hotels; but I tend to only stick with the Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, and Hilton brands because I tend to have fantastic stays at their properties, I am invested in their loyalty programs, and because I have unfortunately had extremely unsettling and unnerving experiences at other brands I have used in the past.

Does that mean that they are going to shut down SPG and merge everything into the Marriott/ritz card? I assumed that SPG would remain separate since it is such a popular card.

Eventually the programs will be merged and the spg points will lose value. Right now SPG points are way more valuable than marriott points and you can do more with them (ie airline transfers). Marriott has a deal with chase, so I think even if they kept the spg card seperate (which is doubtful down the line by which I mean 2018 or beyond) they would move that over to chase.

My only point was that people here and and other forums are getting approved quite a bit even though they are over, and in some cases way over 5/24. I recently was approved for the Hyatt and I'm 20+ new accounts in last 2 years.

My favorite is IHG. I only use it for hotel stays, though. The rewards on regular spending aren't great, and it's often easy to earn points through other promotions.

Bonuses on travel cards change frequently. It can be hard to know the best time to apply. Assuming you can meet the minimum spend at any time, try to weigh the value of perks and rewards you can use between now and some point in the future when a better bonus might be available.
