Citi/Costco Visa Open to New Costco Members without a AMEX?

After reading Citi Costco Visa benefits, it has sparked a interest. I don't see anywhere that you can app for it, it's mostly info regarding the transition from Amex to CIti Visa. Has anyone heard? Thanks!

I'm fairly certain it will be available for apps. Costco still wants to offer a credit card for new members. The advertising has been directed at the transition, but I assume after June anyone can app for the new card if they want.

Not 100% certain, but pretty sure.

Thanks, I would assume that they would but just hadn't been able to read anything about the timeline. After Citi Visa roll out, I will be on Costco site, or stop by my local Costco store.

I currently do not have a membership with Costco, but have become very interested in the new Costco Citi Visa scheduled to roll out June 20th. I was told that while customers will be able to use any Visa at that time, they will have applications and instant approvals available for those who qualify for the Citi Visa on June 20th as well. Also during my investigation Cap One was mentioned as a card issuer as well. Found out Cap One supplies the Costco store card only, no Visa. I'm sure most knew about it, but for the few who might have known, lol!

Needless to say, my calender has been updated to visit Costco on June 20th.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Make sure you run the numbers. Is it going to be worth it to pay for Costco if you don't really shop there, just to get the cash back? Not saying don't do it but make sure you figure out how much real benefit you are looking at.

I love costco but citi is hard to get a card with them . I hope costco card get easier than other citi card

Conventional wisdom is to get a bonus and occasionally dodge AFs. You might end up effectively paying an AF for the card/membership, but won't get a bonus.

I'm an Executive Costco member but not interested in this card. A Freedom Unlimited would be nice in the long run there if I had one, but for now I'm happy with a mix of 5% Freedom-derived Costco Cash and Amex Platinum minimum spend.

I have SAMs Club membership and a MasterCard with them, but I do prefer Costco and now that their card benefits are comparable, it's a card that appeals to me.

juniornj23 you have some pretty difficult cards, BOA is pretty conservative. It may not be as hard as you think. I will post my experience once I app! Good Luck!

I'd have to disagree. There are certainly some credit situations where a de facto AF (membership) would be worth it. As KDM suggested, it's worth crunching the numbers.

Aside from the credit product, Costco's gas prices compared to other local retailers are a plus. A membership just for that cost benefit would definitely work for many people.

Yes that will be the case . Employees are taking training courses for the new card sign ups . The sign-ups will be in a form of tablet applications and I am sure that around June it will be available to the public.

I can't speak for RoseyK, but if I were interested in a new membership I would likely wait as well. The reason is that a pre-qual offer for the credit card is most likely when signing up for a new membership.

Even if they do pre-quals at the register like Sam's Club, I would rather deal with it at the member services desk than with a cashier at a register (with a line of people behind me).

That's just my own preference.

PC is very unlikely. Issuers are typically hesitant to PC cobranded cards. In most cases, it's only doable if you are switching within the same "family", i.e. if there were two levels of Costco cards it may be possible to move between them. But from just a plain Citi card to Costco, 99% sure it will be a no. Usually it's because of the agreements between the issuer and the cobrand partner.
