Union Bank? Geez I haven't seen a thread on that bank in ages, I even drive by a branch everyday and still forget they exist. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what these exciting changes they speak of will be.

They picked up my mortgage loan after I'd paid six months on it; apparently they're moving more of their money back into the American market.

They used to call themselves Union Bank of California when I banked with them, so my assumption is they're based here in CA but don't know for certain.

Did they discontinue their previous cards, or did they just stop accepting new apps? Whatever they're offering, I wouldn't be interested if it could just as suddenly be snatched back.

I had a secured card with Union Bank once.
And there regular CC's were just basic no thrill cards, look foward to see there new changes.

They are a subsidary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group out of Japan.

In Cali for the same reason JCB is, lot of expats here .

Bumping this. After missing the August 28, 2016 rollout it looks like their credit cards are now available to apply in branch. Rewards card is 2x points at grocery stores up to $6k annually, everything else is 1x point. It's not clear what points are worth, but pretty underwhelming IMO. Even though my branch is 5 minutes away, I'll probably pass on this one.

ETA: Business card offers 5x points on office supplies, telecom and utilities up to $25k annually.

I use to bank with these guys, at the time they where only bank that would give me a check acc due to owning BOA from a long time ago. I will visit a branch to see if they can do a SP for CC, which I doubt but don't hurt to check.

The business card sounds like the FNBO Absolute Rewards card that I've seen a couple banks white label. But unlike the other banks this one has a signup bonus.

I agree, their cards stink. A "intro" 3% balance transfer fee on their best card, and then 5% after that. Even their "low fee" card is 3% with no intro rate.

Not that anyone shoudl carry a balance, but if your credit score is excellent, you'll get a 14.4% minimum APR to get a measly 2 points per dollar on up to 6k a year at grocery stores, and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases.

Their card lineup is awful. At least offer a competitive rewards program, or offer a flat rate slightly above 1% back.

I am kind of curious about the Santander Sphere card but don't hear much about it. What bureau did they pull when you applied? You probably have zero utilization based on your total credit lines

Um, Single digit utilization and they pulled EX. I wasn't instant and their response was thanks for applying and you'll receive notification in 30 days. It reported on all 3 already and I just got the card today. Aprs range from 12.74 to 22.74, 0% on purchases for 1 year, 0% on BT for 2 years, NO AF and 4% transfer fee..ouch

and according to Finstar from 12/2015:

Santander tends to be somewhat conservative on the CC side and recons are not very successful. Like USAA, their declined decisions (unless it involved verification factors) are pretty much final. IIRC, if the letter provides information that you feel is inacurate or merits a 2nd review, you can send any supporting documentation but it may take them up to 30 days to provide any answer (very manual process). Also, there is no direct line for reconsiderations.
