No, they are not nuts. They are just slime balls (some of them). They are just trying to get $$$ from you, with the hopes you will pay them the $80. They know they hold your credit score in their hands. Good luck.

Got approved for a Best Buy MC about 2 months ago. Never activated the card or used it, called the customer service number when we got the card and told them that we didn't want the card and would not pay an annual fee for a card I only had for 2 months and never used. So, they sent a bill today for $80 for a late payment fee, past payment due and the new payment. Can I be charged for this and I never used or activated this card?

Eve

I apped. on a stupid trance to HSBC sub prime card- never activated it cuz when I got it I finally brightenend up and read that it had a 59 ann fee. Wouldn't activate it and they hounded me by calling- they didn't charge me and I fussed and fussed but the cut the fee in half and then got rid of it all together.

That is when I found out- if you app for the card and GET IT- you have just entered the agreement w/ them.

I was lucky enough to not have activated it- and not lucky to have them charge the fee until I activated it, and lucky to have it waived- but I just tried to have it closed and they finally raised the measly limit. I am def. closing it in Feb.

I would look into this further. It completely goes against basic contract law, and in your favor. Your fee is paying for the annual use of the card, I suspect. No use, no fee. I would fight this one with a vigor.
