I have read in the forums that AMEX was no longer backdating the year of membership, but I just had a hell of a nice surprise. A few days ago I applied for PRG, Platinum and Blue Cash Preferred and was approved for all three. Once I activated the online accounts for the PRG and BCp, the online statement read: Member since 2016. But when I added the Platinum they all changed to 1990 !!

I remember I briefly held an AMEX Platinum from my dad's account back in the day. This was great news because now I have all three new AMEX cards with an age of 27 years each! I can wait to see what it does to my score. And all this with one HP from EXP. I still can't believe it!

It's backdated online and on the physical card; not the credit bureaus. Sorry to say it won't help your score.

Yeah unfortuntely they do not backdate at the CRAs anymore. What the card says is irrelevant. On the positive side, you can use that card that says 1990 to get dates with chicks who are impressed by such things*.

Thank you at the failed attempt to burst my bubble......(just kidding!) but I will be the judge of that next month when I check my credit report. I just called AMEX and asked. The super friendly agent told me that my accounts will be reported with the 1990 year. My dad must still have the same account or something. I won't speculate and I did not want to ask more. But I am going to believe the agent over my peeps....

That approach rarely works out well. Regardless of which company we're talking about. In general, front line agents know squat about credit reporting. Half the time they don't even know the difference between a hard and soft pull.

I think we've been to the rodeo just a few more times than you have. It absolutely, positively, undeniably will not backdate the CRAs. Have fun with the date on your care though.

We're not trying to "burst your bubble", we're just telling you how it is.

I'm a "Member Since 1995" but I missed the backdating by three weeks (they ceased backdating to the CRAs back in March 2015).

I assure you my Amex cards did not backdate on my reports regardless of my "Member Since" date.

You're welcome to "keep us posted", just prepare yourself not to be totally shocked when you realize we are right.

This threads got me dyin. "The rep said" :'D after it doesn't report as 1990 you should call and demand they backdate because "the rep said so" :'D I'm sure that agents gonna have your back.
Who knows, between you and that agent maybe you can be that one guy in the past year and a half to get it. The only one. Just one. In all the forums. Of all the apps.

I understand that this is not the answer you are looking for, but please do prepare yourself for your account opening date to reflect accurately on your credit reports. The Member Since date, at this point, is merely a reference to when you first established your relationship with American Express and nothing more.

Unfortunately, they quit backdating to the CRs around March of last year, IIRC. It's a shame, because I probably would have applied for another AMEX had I known. My 1998 MSD would help things now.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm, (I am well aged to not rely on any parent for anything, am grandparent age myself) friendly agent was wrong, we have been working with this for over a year. Amex reports from when you applied. (Of course, you COULD be playing a late May 5th April fools joke on us, you might know better).

I got my first Amex in 2006 (now closed). My online member since date is 2012 - the date of my 2nd Amex since closed. When i applied for my BCP in 2015 I logged in and my Member Since date on the website said 2012. I received my card and it said 2015. I chatted up support and they sent me a card that said 2012 - so they match. They won't report it as such to the bureaus anymore. But if you want all your physical cards to have matching dates - it can be done. It looks like from here on out I will go with 2012.

Mentioned above but MSD is not backdating. Backdating is when a tradeline reports as opened before it was acutally opened. Having an MSD imprinted on the card or online is not the same thing.

CSR's can be mistaken, misinformed, etc with any company. Be careful relying on what a given CSR says.

As stated above, backdating ended March of last year. You cannot verify backdating by looking at the MSD on your online account or card(s). You have to look at your reports.
