Advice needed for daughter's first job, what REWARD-BASED CC for travel expenses?

Hi all!

My daughter started her first job yesterday after college (pays well) She only have 1 credit union "student" visa $500 limit and 4 year old almost never-used store-branded visa $4,000 limit both of them no points or rewards. She brought brand new car last week with excellent post-graduation rate and BIG savings.

Now, she is waiting to hear back from HR if they issue her an company-issed credit card (doubtful) or reibursements (most likely). Her job requires travel from time to time (if she has to go to southern California, she will fly, if northern California, she will drive. She asks which is the BEST reward-based card she should consider applying for this purpose?

Her scores? FICO 750's across the board (give or take). Her first CU visa was little more than 4 years. Only 1 IQ on all of her CR (last week's auto app)

You'll probably find a pretty strong consensus for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

LOL Kaykay65! Indeed I am! Depite the fact I was forced to filed for BK7 after divorce I still instill my 2 kids on their good credit plans and I'm proud that she asked me this question about car loans few weeks ago and now about rewards-based card for her job. It makes me happier seeing my kids have successful credit profiles (as well as seeing others on MyFICO forums of their rebuilding successes too)

I wouldn't apply for either the Preferred or Premier as neither has a signup bonus currently. You're right that the Prestige is a much better choice.

+1 agree that either Premier or Prestige

All depends on which she'll do the most traveling by air or driving

If driving Premier if not Prestige

I'd lean toward the Premier as her first travel card due to the very broad 3x travel points

She'll also need to factor in where she'll be vacationing for point redemption (local or overseas)

If you don't mind no signup bonus the card does offer 3X points on travel plus gas which alone is worth it for me.... The prestige is nice but not willing to put down $550 worth in AF's to get it to go along with my citi AAdvantage card ( $450 for the prestige and $95 for the AAdvantage). Plus doesn't fit into my spending which is primarily gas along with the other stuff like food, bills and etc. The prestige is the way better card and if you are willing to pay $450 for the AF I say go for it. Personally like it over the Amex Plat since A) is a credit card and B) I like to fly AA anyways so the lounge access is nice along with the comp night on hotel stays longer than 4 days.

No it doesn't ... Got mine as my first. Plus the prestige isn't on the same level as the CSP.... The prestige is going against the Amex plat while the Premier is more geared to compete with the CSP IMO
