Sweet! You got to love Amex for that. However I'm pretty sure the gold PRG is also 10k per occurance and 50k per a year just like the platinum.

certan Gold Amex cards seem to have the same protections as Plat:

1. How does Purchase Protection work?

When an American Express Card Member charges a covered purchase with their Card account, Purchase Protection can help protect your purchases for up to 90 days from the date of purchase if it is stolen or accidentally damaged. Please read important exclusions and restrictions.

For Platinum Card®, Delta Reserve®, Premier Rewards Gold, Rewards Plus Gold, Ameriprise Gold and Fidelity Gold Card Members Purchase Protection can also help protect your purchases for up to 90 days from the date of purchase if the item is stolen, accidentally damaged or lost. The coverage is limited up to $10,000 per occurrence, up to $50,000 per Card Member account per calendar year.

Congrats. I've never even considered these benefits with Amex, however I believe the PRG purchase protection covers only damage or STOLEN items and the PLAT card covers LOST items on top of that (misplacement), which is awesome.

For PRG, they changed it late last year, it now covers lost items too....did they want any paperwork or anything for a $2200 claim?

I'm sure the OP is being honest, but I wonder how often people make false claims...stating the item is lost and then taking a trip to the local pawn shop. Is there anyway to prevent this? I could also see losing something only to find buried in the couch sometime later. I know I would try to make right, but what if you can't get the original value back. I wouldn't want to cover the difference, but would feel bad if my bank did (a little bit at least).

The only thing I was asked to provide was the receipt (it was shown on amex statement), description of item, and mall security note that I put my name down in lost and found for that item. that's all.

As for honesty, yes some people can abuse this because if it was "lost" and you even file a report who is to say you are lying. So at $10K per occurrence and $50K limit a year, one can play the system and pretend to lose a $8000 rolex fives times a year etc..but that is illegal and insurance fraud and amex prob tracks the freuqnecy of use of this insruance but very hard to prove it was not lost or stolen...since 1991 this is only the 2nd time I've used this service.

The $10k in protection certainly helped out a lot here over the standard $1k.

PRG, Platinum, Centurion, and Delta Reserve cards all have the $10k in purchase protection FYI.
