AMEX is still sending out pre-approved offers?

I was surprised to get a pre-approved offer from AMEX yesterday, a Rewards Plus Gold card. No annual fee the first year and 50,000 rewards points, which it says is enough points for two airline tickets on a partner airline.

Maybe they have to keep getting new customers because they are screwing over the current ones.

My scores are finally going up with an old baddie coming off this month and I'm not going to screw it up by applying for more cards. Amex can wait until I approve THEM.

Really? That's a lot of points, huh? I double-checked, yes it's 50,000 points. Oh, if I spend $500 by February 28th. Could just pay a couple of bills and make that.

Thats a large offer I heard for that small requirement. The only thing AMEX offered me was 25k. I can tell they will do anything to get people to use their charge products at this time. I bet if you wait 3 more months, they will offer 75k points? haha

OK, I went ahead and accepted the card. I looked at their rewards and the 50k points could get me $300 at a variety of places, like Ikea and Toys R US. It actually did take under 60 seconds for approval (I timed it).

AMEX sent me a pre approval too. I disposed of it. I do NOT want a credit card to only give me a CLD in the future. I have been fine all these years witout an AMEX card and I do not need them to screw up my credit now.

So far I have not had a CLD from any card that I have.

Very nice. Or if you fly alot, I would transfer those points to your frequent flyer account and that will land to you 2 free round fare trips within the states.

I haven't had any CLD either, just got a CLI from Discover last month. I'll use the rewards points to get something at Ikea. Might as well, it's $300.

I don't use credit cards very much, have 6 cards and only one with a balance. I don't expect that I will use the AMEX much, if at all. I have too many other cards with cash back, not just points. I normally use the Discover card and always sign up for the 5% cash back catagories every quarter. I use the others once every few months, used my Citibank Dividends and my Chase card for a little purchase last month and I PIF already before the statements.
