New Ally CashBack Credit Card

I bank with Ally and saw this on their site today: https://www.ally.com/bank/cash-back-credit-card/

Seems like the extra bonus is decent if you bank with them but it's still not that amazing. The card is issued by TD Bank, which I find interesting.

Interesting if you have a deposit account. I used to keep my EF there. But, moved it to Alliant since their share savings had same rate. I still have a few coins at Ally. That 10% cashback looks pretty sweet!

Well, that makes it 2.2% on gas/groceries and 1.1% on everything else, if you deposit in Ally, so not very compelling at all IMO as many cards are better

The 10 percent bonus seems basically meaningless because it still doesn't make the earn rates competitive or attractive IMO.

Weird how they're offering their card through TD Bank. At least it has EMV… as far as I know, Ally still doesn't offer chip cards for their debit cards and don't plan to anytime soon.

It sounds like it helped them get it to market much quicker by using them for their card.

I like how they do the comparison to other cards at the bottom, and flat out has Bank of America beating them with the 3-2-1 system and a 10% deposit bonus. Wut?

What's strange is that this isn't a traditional B&M bank. I'm sure when the big banks send out offers on meh cards to their account holders, a certain percentage sign up simply because they do not know that there are better options and these are from "their" bank. Whereas I would think (and maybe I'm wrong!) that most people choosing Ally would have done some research to select it (rather than the branch down the street) and would be aware that this offering is not at all best in class.

So Ally Bank has a new card issued by TD Bank? That's like Chase coming out with a new card issued by Citi, odd. Anyhow the card is just meh and the fact it's from TD Bank seals the "I'll pass" deal.

I bank with Ally, have a savings, IRA, and checking account with them. Though with my card spread I find this reward structure a bit... underwhelming. I find it more than odd that Ally is using TD Bank for this program. I'm not crazy about TD and have no interest to add another account from them.

One of my OCD tendencies is that after I establish a banking relationship, I open as many accounts as possible with that bank. In case there are ever any issues in the future, or if I ever want fees waived, accidentally screw something up, etc., I think it helps to show the depth of my relationship with the bank extends beyond a checking account.

So even though I agree with everybody that this is a truly awful card, I just applied. I also have truly useless cards from several credit unions I belong to, which I keep stashed away "just in case." One more positive tradeline with Ally won't hurt me.

But Ally says my application is "under review" rather than instantly approved. Interesting. Curious to hear if this is usual or if others are getting instant approvals.
