Positive experience for me as well. They gave me my first card when rebuilding even though it was secured and raised its limit in a few months.

I then applied for QS1, and a few months later, they changed it to a QS and waived/refunded my previous annual fees for both cards.

There are a lot of Cap One fans but I know there are also a fair amount of detractors. When I opened my Quicksilver it was on a 0% interest promo. At the time, I didn't note the expiration date of the promotion. So, I called today to find out when the promo ends. (There is no back interest. It's just interest going forward) Anyway, the rep said that in order to avoid all interest it needed to be paid off by today. Oops! I was a bit shocked as I didn't realize that.

She asked me when I was planning to pay it off. I said within the next couple of months. So, she immediately extended the interest free period. I thought that was an awesome gesture, particularly since I didn't ask for it.

Yep, I'm a cap one fan

Yes capital one is a very good lender. They are also very aggressive on taking people to court when they ignore to pay owed amount. Just go to your local courthouse and there are lots of cases of cap one Vs so and so. In my experience CAP ONE has the best customer service of all. They really take care of their customers. Just remember if you cannot pay they will not forget and will send a random person to your house in a sunday evening out of the blue and they will serve you papers. Be responsible people on paying bills and cap one will take care of you.

I agree they are awesome. Just a few days ago I called to ask about upgrading my Quicksilver One to the regular QS with no AF. They did it no problem. I am officially AF free on all cards thanks to them

It was a really pleasant surprise. I should have been on top of things but I didn't start using a spreadsheet to track credit card details until a couple of months after I opened the card. And I didn't think to note when the promotional period ended. I pay cards charging interest off in full. But I was letting a balance report on the QS and Discover due to the interest free periods.

I have nothing but good things to say about Cap One. Now, I guess I'll try my luck and ask for a CLI.

Sorry for not being extremely specific. When someone gets sued by CAP ONE, Cap One does not send a CAP ONE employee, someone will go to your house and try to catch people off guard to serve them with papers that they are getting sued. That person that visits you at odd hours to get you off guard is a process server, not a CAP ONE rep or CAP ONE employess. EXCUSE THE you know what out of me. The process server probably works for a legal firm or an attorney or the court, that I am not sure. If you cannot pay, dont swipe or charge or max it.

If you cannot pay, dont swipe or charge or max it.

No reason for apologies (or to be defensive); the clarification was only necessary since in the recent past it was actually thought that Capital One would visit you at your home or office (as in, would literally show up themselves). I provided links to back this up, and additional information can be easily found using Google.

In any case, your last statement is absolutely correct - if you can't afford to pay the bill, Capital One is definitely the wrong card to use. Another notable fact is that they are known to be very efficient at reporting charged off balances to the IRS (creating a tax liability) even if they choose not to sue.

Back to the topic of the thread, while some people have had negative experiences with Capital One (many documented on this forum) there are also many people who have had positive experiences, especially recently. I've been very pleased with them myself, and I know many others have been as well.

Allowing people to combine accounts was a major positive feature, and if they would start allowing APRs to be lowered when people's credit scores or internal history supported it I believe they would have even more fans.

@elcocaino2010 wrote:

You can't really fault them for that.

I think Cap 1 is unique in that they have decent products, and yet have a presence in the subprime market. And even people who have had issues still don't complain nearly as much as anyone and everyone (rightfully) does about Credit 1/Merrick/Etc

Part of the cost (on both ends) of dealing with subprimes is higher defaults, and dealing with them.

Also, from what I have heard, if you stay in communication with Cap 1, they are much more willing to work with you.
