Well I know which one I'd apply for but that doesn't help you. Which card would benefit you the most? That's the one to go for.

I would get value from both but I don't want both. Just asking whah you think is the better card? Just looking for opinions.

The SPG would be better for the extra nights, but if flew on Delta a lot I'd probably snag that instead. Don't know what the longterm outlook will be for the SPG after the Marriott merger.

SPG is more valuable to me. The legacy airlines are in a continuous race to the bottom with their constant devals. At the end of the day you need to decide which card you want more though.

I prefer free airfare. Fly anywhere and stay anywhere.

If you get delta, unless you are flying a ton on delta RIGHT NOW, get a targeted offer of 50 or 60k ( i think 50k is available right now), pair that experian inquiry and get a PRG 50k bonus so you end up with 100k delta miles.

I like SPG because of its flexibility, as well as its transfer bonus. 20k transferred=25k actual miles, plus 4th night free, and they have tons of hotels that are nice for only 4k points a night that I use regularly. Not to mention my favorite feature is the transferability to Amtrak!

For me, it's the Delta Plat. But that's because I fly Delta a lot. I'm in a Delta hub city so it's Delta 'everything'. By putting $25K on the card, the minimum spend for each medallion level is waived. I fly as cheaply as I can and wouldn't make the spend mimimums for the upper tiers. With the waiver due to the card, I will automatically repeat my Platinum status and will most likely hit Diamond this year.

The bonus miles aren't so bad either.

Decided to go with SPG, simply because it's flexibility. I can usually always find flight deals but we spend a lot on our hotels.

I think you've made the best choice for the flexibility and the best rewards system out there since SPG points can be redeemed for 2.4+ and other valuable perks of the card

The only thing to watch for in the future is what Marriott does with the reward system but for now good choice IMHO

Thanks for all the helpful responses. I actually plan to get the delta but not for awhile. I don't want to worry about meeting spend bonuses. And it's been two years since I've discovered this forum so time to start consolidating and closing!

I hear ya. I'm gardening now and will be doing some consolidating/closing activity by year's end. Congrats on your new card.

I should have added in my post above that I rarely stay in hotels when on personal travel. I have hotel stays for work travel but will generally rent condos for vacations. So, I've never really looked at the SPG. On the other hand, the Delta status results in a fair amount of first class upgrades so that's why it got my vote.
