ZAPPO's Visa NO longer available from Chase

According to DOC, and the Zappo's website/Chase Rep....Zappo's Visa is no longer available to apply for. Zappo's is owned by Amazon, so I think there is some shifting and changes going on. Will be interesting to see.

So for those who have the Zappo's Visa by Chase, keep your eyes open for card changes....

Could be the fact that Amazon owns Zappos and that it is redundant to issue an Amazon card and a Zappos card, perhaps the zappos card will be PC'd to a Amazon card, all speculation on my part but somethings up.

Owned and same credit card are two different things and that doesn't make sense to me... it's not like you can shop Zappos through Amazon so credit cards would overlap.

Amazon does do things strangely... I've always found it odd that their 'store card' is more valuable for Amazon purchases than their Visa version (of course this goes along with your thoughs on it being out of place that they use two different banks).

I'm sure there's a reason for it, though. (?)

Can't argue with you on that one, I never understood the store card and Visa card being issued by two different banks, in the end, the way Amazon is growing they'll probably have their own bank and shut out everybody, who knows. Definitely a head scratcher.

You couldn't have "always" found it odd, because the store card didn't become a decent card until just 15 months ago. I'm just teasing you, you understand.

As for the reason, I think it's just that: Because things have just recently changed. Unless Chase wants to sweeten the pot I predict the Visa will just die a quiet death. Who would apply for that card anymore? Especially since it's Chase and lately they've had a stick... ah nevermind.

IMO, their Visa actually is "OK" for a subset of consumers for non-Amazon purchases, but in general for actual Amazon purchases the 'store' card is superior.

I would think that a partner such as Amazon wouldn't want a seemingly arbitrary 'rule' to keep them from their customers, but that's just me. It will be interesting to see if the deal is renewed again whenever it expires (no word on when that might be - I suspect it will be a while, though).

Back in April I noticed that the Zappos visa was gone. I have the card and have hear nothing from chase in regards to a Pc. But someone else in my thread mentioned the Amazon thing.

Eh, as much as 5/24 impacts people on the forums, in the real world I doubt many consumers who are going for the Amazon card are over 5/24 anyway. The number of people outside of the "CC world" who open that many cards is probably pretty low.

I think in general the thoughts about the partners not liking the rule are a bit overblown. Chase is allowed to have underwriting policies, and if their studies show that many cardholders over 5/24 barely use the card, or just collect the bonus and run, or whatever, then the partner probably doesn't really care if that person gets approved. People who are under 5/24 are more likely to be loyal to a card, vs those applying for a ton of cards and spreading their spend around; again, the partner probably won't care as much about losing that customer who is just going to basically SD the card.

By logic, the more cards you have, the less you are going to be spending on each one. So someone who doesn't apply often is probably more attractive to Chase/Amazon/whoever.

That is one way to look at it, but since none of us are 'privy' to the discussions over at Amazon all we can do is speculate.

I'll just say that my own personal experience with Amazon (albeit limited) has been fantastic, and I can't imagine any part of them being willing to 'give up' business based on a partner's arbitrary guideline.

It's common knowledge that customers purchase more (and have larger tickets) when a credit card is used, and I'm sure Amazon has it worked out where they benefit when their own card is used (store or Visa) over another issuer's card. (They're foolish if they don't... and Amazon isn't known to be run by fools.)

Or who knows... maybe they will be fine with it - I'm sure it gets expensive giving away $80 for each new Visa account they open.

Time will tell!
