topic Merging CLs with Chase? in Credit Cards

I'm up to 4 different cards with chase, and one pending... All are cobranded (Amazon, AARP, BA, United). I am wondering if, when I clear 5/24 and am able to get Freedom/CSP, if Chase is amenable to merging the Cobranded CLs into the in-house cards.

And/or are they oj with merging cobranded CLs. I think I'm only going to want the AARP and the Amazon long-term.

Thanks,
Gib

You can move your credit lines around among any of your Chase cards, co-brand or not. Just send a SM or give them a call. I have done this a few times and never an issue. Sometimes the rep you talk to can do it, otherwise they will transfer you to the lending department.

With Chase it works like this; say you have a Amazon Visa and Freedom Visa. You cant ask them to product change the Amazon Visa into a house card. But, you can ask them to merge the credit limit into the Freedom and vice versa. Just make sure your card has a zero balance and no activity on it for a month to move the entire limit.

A lot of people have luck accomplishing this via secure message, it has worked for me once but I usually get a message back saying to call them. I have also called them via the Ritz number and have been transfered to lending to get the job done. Its usally pretty easy and as long as the card 0 balanced for a month, you shouldnt have any problems.

Is it Slate that is the only card where they make you leave $500 on it before you close it?

Otherwise, I would still say keeping the AARP for 3% on dining and gas wouldnt be a bad idea. Unless of course you would get more value from 2x URs on dining with the CSP and whatever the freedom categories offer. You really dont need a high limit on the freedom. If you fly united a lot it may make sense to keep the card, but its not required to transfer URs to united with the CSP.

If you do have a chase bank branch anywhere near you, you could go in and see if you can chat with a banker and see if you are prequalified for any cards. This can bypass the 5/24 limit.

I personally do not care for the amazon visa. But I have seen some of the best BT check offers come for this card with either 0 or 2% bt fees and 0% apr for at least 15 months

They made me leave 500 on my Disney premier when I merged it with my Freedom. It was a easy process. Looks like the only two I'm keeping are IHG and Freedom. The Hyatt and AARP are going away. The IHG's limit is more than fine at $8,000. The Freedom will be larger than I need ($36,500 if they take $1000 for consolidations). But I want to hold on to atleast one in-house Chase CC for future PC if something good comes along. Neither is used as a daily driver.

Thanks everyone!

I have until June 2018 for an in-house card, but may merge the others into the AARP for the 3% dining. The Amazon I'm sentimental about - tried for that card for years... so we'll see about that one.

I need to work on balancing rewards and annual fees now that I have about all the credit I can manage at my current income. (Need ro work on that income too...)

A good rule of thumb to follow with Chase and merging accounts is, how does my profile look to them when they process the request? Basically if you were to "stand in their shoes", would my profile raise concern and be transferred to lending for review and possible AA? Or would the CSR handling your merge request nod in approval at the low inquiries, low util and pristine payment history while he/she reviews your CR on their screen. Something to think about.

My Disney wasn't 6 months old when I merged it with the Freedom. I wouldn't app and then immediately merge. I used the Disney enough to get my bonus and held on to it for a few months afterwards. Honestly the card is pretty lame. Although they seem to give some nice SL's with it! The CSR was very nice and offered to merge all of my cards. lol

I still have some free nights to burn before that happens though.
