Just UPGRADED Cap One rebuilder card

Hubby had that new Capital One rebuilder card (approved in December) ... it graduated to a regular Platinum card around May ... just upgraded to a Quicksilver platinum no AF today. Going to shoot for a CLI in four months.

Woah, they do that for the new rebuilder card but not the secured? Ugh. I don't want to cancel my secured card right now for various reasons, but it would be really nice if it graduated. I knew going in that it never would, but I'm a bit jelly that their other low score product does.

My other card with them is a Platinum, and for being kind of a starter card, it has a decent credit line. They more than tripled its line back in March. Maybe I should call and ask for it to be converted to a QS1? I've never been offered but keep hearing that's a thing.

You have to ask via phone or chat. IME, they don't just offer it.

Call or chat and ask, but don't ask for a QS1. Go for broke and ask for a QS. It'll stay a MasterCard but it's still the higher tier product.

You should try for the QS with NO af. I got that upgrade from the platinum just last week!

Congratz how exciting. That rebuilder showed up a few weeks after I applied for my secured card. I am jelly, mine will be stuck as a secured cap1 platinum at 525$ for ever. its at 525$ after that one time increase of 300$ they give at 6mos

You can't do prequal's ore recieve prequals in the mail until your 21. I'm 18 so if I apply it will be a shot in the dark, I wouldnt mind a qs but dont want the one with the 39$ fee; it would make the cash back ineffective for me, I dont spend enough annually to break even.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I was recently approved for the Marvel Mastercard, which was very exciting.

I went through an identical process - Platinum -> QS1 -> full QS (as of two weeks ago). *And* I just got a sweet 2X CLI from them this morning. Admittedly, I've been using that card exclusively for the past couple months and making multiple payments to keep the usage below 9%, so I guess that tactic really does work. The Cap1 people were super helpful with each product change for me. If only BofA were that accomodating, the stingy so-and-so's...

They've definitely helped me get back into "grown-up" card territory, though I need to see about getting my APR lowered. That seems to be a holdover from my subprime days. Discover IT is another one that sounds like they reward their users for being responsible, unlike my aforementioned BOA card. I can easily get approved with them and AMEX at this point, and while I don't particularly need the credit itself, my file could use an extra tradeline or two, plus those are known to grow over time.

OP -- if you've used the card a lot and kept it mostly paid off, you're pretty likely to get the upgrade to the full Quicksilver. Then bask in the satisfaction of leaving the QS1's annoying annual fee behind.
