Pay Cap One Card Account With Debt Card ?...

So I called Cap One today to see about paying my bill. I had 600.00 in charges posted, but not reflected in my balance yet. My statement cuts today.

The rep told me I could pay the entire balance, even with the 600.00 that is not posted, with my debt card (my bank is Citi, I checked citi after I made the payment it was authorized)

I said...how can I add my debt card online to pay with in the future...she said log in and add it.

I logged in and tried to add my debt card and I cannot figure out how to do that ?

How do I add debt card so I can pay with it in the future, looks like I can only add a checking or saving account

The CSR was wrong. According to Capital One's FAQ's:

FAQ: Credit Cards and Lines of Credit

What forms of payment are not accepted for paying my credit card bill?

At this time we do not accept online credit card payments made with Capital One access checks, Capital One purchase checks, cash, foreign currency, debit, or credit cards.

Wel,, no she for sure did not mean checking account.

I read the woman my 16 digit debt card with Citibank and she took it over the phone and not 5 mins later saw the Cap One 2k deduction from my checking account

You can't pay with Capital One products.

I bet she took the debit card over the phone as a one time convenience thing only and that it is something an account manager or a customer service rep could do because she knew for sure it wasn't a credit card. Did she take your PIN while doing so? If she didn't, then she just ran it through whichever major network (Visa, MC, etc) is printed on your card the same way it works when you select "credit" when using your debit card. The problem with having an electronic form on their website for taking card information is that anyone could add their credit card or pre-paid debit/credit which is something that most credit card companies forbid, instead making you do a balance transfer.

I don't see the problem with just adding your checking account to your online account with your credit card and using their app to pull payments from there. Worst case you could add your credit card account as a "pay to" account in your banking app for Citi and push payments to them every month. Personally I prefer the pull method because the lender instantly knows that your payment is on its way, and in some cases (like Citi) it updates your credit card balance instantly even while the payment is pending.

You can only pay using your Debit Card over the phone, not online

I had no clue you could use your debit card over the phone. I thought they only took checks, or electronic payments from your checking account.

if you paid using a Debit card then that means Cap1 is willing to pay the Debit fee, that seems odd to say the least

I just made a payment to Capital One today, about 15 minutes ago, with my debit card. No fees, no issues.

I typically make my payment online via my checking account, but last time I did they put a hold on the payment for some reason. I ended up having to call Captial One, who then called my bank to verify account ownership and that the payment had processed and within 2 minutes, the payment was posted to my account. The Capital One rep told me that I could always avoid a payment hold by paying via debit card over the phone.

People have had some success with this paying Citi. Don't know about CapOne. But, as is often the case, seems to depend on the CSR whether they are willing to try.

I don't really like rebate credit cards because I sometime end up with 0.60 cents remaining on the card and that can add up depending how many rebates I receive from purchases. Newegg once sent me a check for a rebate instead of a prepaid credit card.

Lots of places autodrain now, so you can easily use several in one purchase. (although 0.6 cents, probably not!)
