The Venture card is a "Travel card" purely in the sense that you redeem your "miles" towards the cost of tickets, hotels, car rentals, etc...

The way it works is you purchase your airline ticket (or hotel), paying for it all up front with your card. After it posts to your account, you can then apply your miles to "redeem" the purchase.

This is how they can say that there are no black out dates - Because Capital One is not the agency arranging the flights, you are.

The 40,000 points sign up bonus is roughly $400 worth of redeemable travel expenses.

And as someone else alreaedy pointed out, you can redeem the miles for cash, but only for a 1:1 rate instead of the 2:1 rate. So the 40,000 points becomes $200 redeemable cash.

Went on a app spree last summer in which I applied for the Venutre. I enjoyed the sign up bonus and got a 15k SL. At the time my highest starting line which I really felt paved the way for my future cards to get higher SL. To date I was able to get the card to 19k CL

The card rarely sees much use anymore but I do like the fact that capital one sends me balance transfer offers every month for the card at 0% for 18 months if I ever need it. I think eventually I may just roll over this limit to a quicksilver card I have and call it a day.

Good luck when you apply.

Large starting line. They gave me 15k when my other card was under 1k, seriously. "Miles" post very quickly. You don't have to wait till after statement cuts. And most importantly, I feel like Cap1 is fairly chill. I'm not afraid to use the card for large purchases or let a larger balance report.

What I loved about this card was that it is my highest CL.... Cap1 gave me a $15k CL. I really enjoyed earning the 40k bonus points which I'm holding onto to use when they are needed. Other than than... there's nothing extremely exciting about this card. I've SD'd since I earned the bonus.

I've seen many OP state it's not really a travel card. I never understood this statement until I started to learn more about "real" travel cards by reading numerous posts on MF. Real travel cards have perks and benefits like lounge access, credits for travel fees, etc.

I also have the Venture One and I love this card bc of the bonus and the 0% APR.

You can also get gift cards to just about any online or physical retailer or restaurant chain for full value, so yea taking half value for the miles as cash is kind of silly.

I'll keep this card because the balance transfer options with it are excellent and I love dealing with Cap One. It's essentially a 2% cash back card so it's my "all other purchases" card outside of Gas/Travel/Dining on Costco and Chase/Discover 5% categories!

It's not the best card out there, but for me it's worth the AF. If I end up not wanting the balance transfer options someday, i'll close the account into my QS.

Comparable cards are the Citi DC, which I stay away from because of the low limits, not instant redemption, and Citi sucks. Also the Fidelity card, which again I have no interest in because it's not as simple as Capital One makes it!

If I was one the MyFico'ers who have spreadsheets and spend hours each week developing a maximum strategy for those extra few cents here and there, this card would not suit me. For me, I like the ease and simplicity of Capital One's best-in-class website and mobile app, instant rewards posting, and no-hassle strategy.
