Capital One "Builder Program" Credit Card

Looks like this program is BRAND NEW.

Starts out with a line of $100 with no security deposit, increases to $500 after 5 payments, APR is 24.9% (which is bad but for this type of card frankly it's not that bad), $0 annual fee. Treat it right and it'll treat you decently. Miss a payment and it's an instant closure. It doesn't start reporting until after they give you the $500 line, though, but it still is a foot in the door possibility I would guess (it looks like they will post all 5 months of those payments to the bureaus once you graduate from the builder program so it still could be worth while).

Sounds decent for people who are struggling with building or rebuilding credit. An unsecured option that may be available for people who are in that secured card only stage of the game.

Just thought I'd bring it to the attention of you fine folks.

Edited to add: Here's a direct link to the application page -- maybe that'd get some people to get the landing page to show up? Who knows.

Weird. I just cleared cookies and clicked it and it went right back to the landing page for me again. I am not signed into my Cap One account or anything so it's certainly not targeted (not that they would, I already hold two cards, one for nearly a year and it states in the FAQ for this card that you can only hold this card with Cap One while in the builder program so that would be illogical for them to target me).

Let me mess with it for a minute to see if I can get another link.

Nope, still no dice for me. Also, cant find it on the average/rebuilding page. I was just curious about it as im past this stage currently.

I thought it sounded like a pretty good option for people at the stage of the game where they really can't get much. $100 is so little but a tank of gas once a month or something similar for a few months to get a $500 line and without having to deal with the really, really subprime lenders or the possibility of having to close your early card(s) because they are secured that don't graduate and you want your deposit back is well, well worth it in my opinion.

Anything that adds to the ability to steer people away from First Premier, Continental Finance, Credit One is a-ok in my book.

Trying everything to get the link to work. I have tried all 3 browsers I have and going ingocnito with Chrome no go. I am wanting to get this for my mom she needs a CC to rebuild her credit.

Got it on my phone My mother that lives WITH ME yes you read that right she lives with me. Said thank you very much. Her credit is not bad its just all she has is a Car Payment and thats it. So she really dont have no history with any Credit cards since 07 when her/ my father passed away. So now she can start rebuilding a CC sheet. She has over 600 Credit score so I dont know why they wont approve her.

I'm in complete agreement about this being an excellent alternative to the high-fee lenders out there... for folks who want a honest second-chance - and for no outrageous fees! - this definitely fits the ticket.

Yeah I dunno why it works for some people and doesn't for others. It works fine on Safari on my computer but it doesn't pull up on Safari on my phone even if I use handoffs between the two Apple products. Who knows.

I thought the program looked pretty good. Cap One Credit Steps is already pretty good for those that get into one of their other products and this looks like it works roughly the same way except with a much smaller starting limit. I like the idea of this a lot and I know it'd help a lot of people out there.

Thanks for posting OP. I got the second link in the first post to work, just right click and open in new tab.

It's a good program, the applicant gets to show they can make 5 payments, and if they can't no embarassing lates on the credit report, just nothing. They must have some data that shows them after the 5th payment, they've got some level of responsibility.

And I'm not eligible. Existing CapOne cardholders cannot get this card.

Yeah, I'm not eligible either with my two Capital One cards, just happened to see something about it while I was clicking around Cap One's page and it immediately clicked to me that I MUST TELL MYFICO. Hahaha.

I just hope it'll help some others who feel like they're lost in trying to build or rebuild. I like more options that aren't bloodsucking leeches.
