How many credit cards do you have and which ones?

I'm interested to learn how many credit/charge cards do you have and which ones?

For me, I have a total of 6 cards-

Amex Blue Cash
Amex Gold Rewards
WaMu Padi International Mastercard
Chase Freedom Visa
BOA Marlins Baseball Mastercard
American Eagle Outfitters Store Card

HSBC 2% Cash - obvious

PEnFed FCU - great rate

CB&T - great rate old line

Crap1 - great recent BT offer just in time to avoid the axe

WaMu - Luv em plus 1% cash

Target Visa- upgrade from store - next on block

Wally World - will let it smell socks

BB Store - great finance rates and rewards

Circuit city store - same as above

BB MC - no idea why except the limit wasn't enough so I app'd for the store card so I will let it get a year old before axing it.

Question: I see that a lot of you pay your bills with your credit cards. I pay my recurring utility bills, DirectTV, home & car insurance, etc., from my online bill pay from my checking account. What is the advantage of paying with your card versus what I'm doing? Sorry to sound naive but that's why I'm on here: to learn!

If you have a cash-back or points card, you can get more $ or pts this way. Some cards have a goody-of-the-month or -quarter where for that time period, you get even more $ or pts if you use your card in certain categories. I figure that by the time I got things set up, the special deal would be over!

Good for you! I remember you posting about this...what did you do a phone recon to the serv dept? How did you get this to happen?

I will acquire 3 more cards in my lifetime : a 'replacement' MC/Visa from my CU, an AmEX(maybe co-brand), and a Discover(maybe co-brand) - other than that it is CLI on what I have.

netpanther, I called them after I received a letter saying they had closed my measley 500 dollar card, "as requested". I got mad all over again and called them and told them I'd sent a letter but I just HAD to tell someone! The rep, as usual, was sooo nice. She said, "Well, let me see if our credit department will reconsider since you are such a good customer and have great credit. BTW, what is a good opening CL you think you'd like?" I told her at least 3k (didn't want to push it since I know I can increase in a few months).

She came back on and said it was approved, she'd re-opened the account and I should get my card in 7 to 10 days. She apologized over and over again, BUT, why couldn't they have just given me the dang card to begin with?? Plus, since they'd already "hit" my reports, give me something in return!

Lesson: Everything in life is negotiable. You may quote me.

Great- so you had a phone recon!! If you don't mind I am going to copy and paste this as a new thread that phone recons work as I had one work and Tuscani is very big on them- and I think people forget about them.

Target Red-keep small balance hoping to get nice CLI(seems most here think that is usually done easily)

Sam's Club Credit - used frequently always PIF

Kay Jewelers - always PIF

Orchard Bank - not used-keep for the history

HSBC Platinum - not used

Overall utilization 4%

Kay Jewelers - use always PIF

Overall Utilization 7%

Want to figure out if I should narrow the number of cards I have down or to "sock" them away and keep the account open for history. Any suggestions? Longest history is about 4 years.
