Balance transfers are offered for consumers to take when there is a need. You get the 0% and the bank gets their fees. Win, win for everyone involved. As long as you make your payments on time, you should be fine and not have AA with Penfed.

Balance Transfer Question

Long story short: I threw an unexpected medical bill on my Southwest card since I figured I might as well use it towards my spend to get my points. However, by my figuring, it may take me longer than I'd like to pay it down. I really don't want to let it sit there at the APR on that card. I've made hefty payments thus far on the card as I'm working on my spend.

My PenFed Gold has a balance transfer offer for 0% APR for 12 months and a 3% transfer fee. That's a much nicer scenario than 20%~ on the Southwest.

My question would be is it likely I'd see AA for doing a BT so soon after opening the account? I opened it at the end of June. I have some time to think about it. I think the BT through PenFed is until the end of September. I've never done a balance transfer before and I just don't want to possibly screw up anything.

TIA for the advice!
