I bought a brand new watch and took it into a jeweler to have the bracelet adjusted because I didn't have my own set of tools. After the service, he just took my watch and slid it across the counter when I went to pick up my item. At home, I noticed that some screw are semi-damaged and there's a scratch on the side of a link. I'm just infuriated. I'd rather not go back and talk it over. Can and should I dispute this?

IMHO, I think you need to go back to the jeweler and advise them of the damage. This way, you can see if they offer to repair any damage they caused. If they refuse, then you may want to file a BBB complaint. You may want to speak with your CCC to determine what their guidelines are for disputes on services not completed satisfactorily, but after you've taken other steps to resolve.

The issue I see with this situation is that the business owner will mostly likely use the fact that the watch was worn and used, therefor concluding that the scratches/imperfections were already there and there is no way to prove this. As for disputing this, you might come accross difficulty considering you did authorize this transaction. My advice would be to go back and give the business owner the benefit of the doubt and hopefully he is honest and will fix it. Next step would be to talk to the CCC and see what their policy is on unsatisfactory service/damage to goods by business for a transaction that you did authorize. Good luck to you, let us know how this plays out.

Go to the repair shop, talk to management/owner and tell them that you're going to dispute the charge if they do not either fix the watch, or offer a massive discount/free of charge, show them the damage.. Tell them you'll dispute it under the basis that the watch was damaged while being serviced!. That way you can write on your dispute that you've already talked to the management at the watch service shop....

It's how I would do it... but choose your route my friend

Did you really just call capital one to have a $10 chargeback placed on a small buisness for some little nicks on your watch? Primarily because you were too chicken to confront the store owner in person or even have the decency to give the owner a call and let them know what happened?

You walked out of the store knowing full well your watch was damaged and made it all the way home. Please don't say you didn't notice until later because everyone with an IQ that isn't in the negative numbers will give an item like a new watch a once over after getting it back and having it slid clear across a counter as you claim.

The problem is now a days people are wholly scared of confrontation and confuse it with combat, instead they take the weasel way out. DI'd you have any clue that when you call for a chargeback the buisness itself is charged a penalty fee ALONG with losing the money from your sale? There's also consequences for the small business after a certain percentage of transactions are charged back. Did you care at all before you called and made that really brave and heroic phone call and own3d that 10 bucks?

I don't know what happened to my thread but I couldn't respond.

And yes. I've been to the shop before and they did a perfect job on my previous watch, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were going to do a terrific job this time. That was until I decided to check for myself and see the damaged screws and a scratch on the link. It's an Omega watch that cost $3K, so even a screw replacement is like $20. I decided I wouldn't confront them because they'll most likely deny their mistake. And the reason I took it home before I went back is because I wanted to consult myfico before taking action, and then I filed the chargeback.

I went to a different jeweler to resize it once again and the service was top notch. Nothing was damaged this time and they treated my watch with respect.

And yes, I knew full well that they'd get penalized, but I'm happy to get my money back.

Thanks for those who responded previously and didn't attack my decision.
