CC fraud :(

So today on my way to work I get a NFCU text saying

"NFCU Card Fraud Dept: Did you use card ending xxxx at GUCCI #55 on 09/20/16 for $1512.00 . Yes reply 1. No reply 2. STOP to opt out of text. For help: 1-844-640-1861."

Sooooo I call and go online and someone spent $13,989.00 on my card in 5 different stores... Why didn't they text me before the smallest and final purchase?!

The good part is, you're not responsible for any of it. To be so critical of memberships, they sure dropped the ball on that one.

I had my Sam's club card used in two states almost a 1000 miles apart just last month.

Only took two transactions for them to notify me. That's crazy that it all those charges were done and not caught right then.

Isn't that your normal spending pattern anyway? It's harder to catch fraud when you actually buy things at Gucci (which has had a couple of awesome seasons, btw. Alessandro Michele is a genius).

Yeah I just picked this Gucci Ghost collection bag at Gucci a few weeks ago for around 3100, but I was just upset they went to 5 designer stores and spent 13.9K!!!! I would never spent that amount in one day ! But I guess I'm not the first nor the last that this will occur to

Myself and a dozen other people got scammed by an Amazon seller. They were new and we all got suckered into buying a 30 ounce RTic tumbler for $8.99 with free shipping. The seller gave us a shipping arrival date with no tracking number. Nobody got their product. I am checking my card everyday to see if they use our credit card numbers again. Got taken with a $750 American Airlines charge 2 months ago on my EBates Visa. Seems to me to be a simple way to get the crooks with a little bit of investigation. I get angry at the credit card's responses as much as I do the crooks using my card.

Why not be proactive and just report the card lost/stolen?

The merchants sure did... Most merchants still aren't requiring EMV for transactions.

Navy Fed is laughing at retailers who are now out a total of $13,000. Navy doesn't lose a dime unless they've failed to give the original poster a chipped card, somehow the criminal cloned the chip (which I highly doubt) and used it at a chip enabled retailer, or if the card was used online.

I know I'm certainly laughing at those retailers. And if the OP was using a credit card, they should be laughing at those rmerchants too. Get a good laugh out of it OP and stop being sad, it's the bank's money that's lost, not yours, and the bank will be passing the fraud onto the merchant who hasn't upgraded their "technology" yet.

Seriously? It's not personal but just part of the life of how we all pay for goods and services. You are not liable for $0 of it and at worst you use a backup credit card or even debit card for a couple days.

I REALLY hate thieves. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.

I've been the victim of fraud twice.

The first time Chase called me because they noticed unusual activity on my debit card. A purchase was made at a Woolworth, a store I never shopped at. The charge was for around $35. Chase canceled the debit card and sent me a new one. The second time was much worse. While at work one day I received a call from B&H Photo and the guy on the phone was 'confirming' some information for an order I never placed. It was for a $500 camera being shipped to Los Angeles, I was working in New York. I had never shopped at B&H Photo before. I told the guy that I never placed any order, it's fraud and should not process the order. He said OK. After I hung up with him I immediately contacted Chase and told them what happened and asked them to decline any charges made on my card. They told me that I'd have to wait until the charge went through before they could do anything. The charge went through, Chase sent me a form that I filled out and faxed back to them. Chase acted like they would do something about it and actually did reverse the charges on my debit. But then later they reversed the charges again and I ended up eating the $500 charge.

Looking back, sometimes I wish I hadn't been so passive and had actually gone down to B&H Photo with the police and spoke to a manager there about the call I received from their store that day. Who knows whether that would've made a difference, but I feel that's what I should've done.

I paid $12 or $16 for expedited shipping on my new NFCU card, but I'm just going to state that I hate thieves! Although it did not cost me money (other then $12-16, it's costing someone 13.9K :/
