Marriott/SPG Merger Finalized - Instant Status Match

After seeing the merger finalize today, execs have announced a status match for those with elite status with SPG instantly. Just linked my accounts and will be using my weekend in Chicago to test it out as I'll be staying at a Marriott.

Looks like (for the foreseeable future) Amex Plat gives Gold status to Hilton, SPG, and now by extension, Marriott!

Hrmmmm, Does this mean us with Marriott Gold are Gold SPG? Can you post a link to data? Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah i got platinum with SPG now. This will make marriott buy back well worth it now. This opens up to many more great hotels. Westin the W and St Regis are 3 i want to try out this coming year.

No, they remain SPG points. Marriott has already said that nothing will happen to SPG points until 2018

Right now, the programs are still separate. So if you spend 1000 at SPG, as a platinum Ritz member, you would get 3000 starpoints. You could then transfer the points to Marriott atnd get 9000 points at the current transfer rate.

Good news: Gold in both via Amex Platinum. Most of my stays are with IHG.

Bad news: With many more people chasing the same number of upgrades, the actual value of Marriott Gold may have just fallen.

At least there are the guaranteed perks to enjoy.

I kinda wish they had kept them separate. Being a platinum member at Ritz-Carlton and marriott I dont think i should now be higher on the food chain at SPG wherw i have spent ZERO nights ever xompared to a yearly gold SPG member.
And that goes in the opposite direction also.

That's okay neither did I w/ Amex plat. I'm glad I held off on Ritz for the time being getting gold at Marriott for no spend maybe until 2018, fingers crossed.

Go Amex, Hilton, SPG and Marriott, wow!

The bonus was recently changed from points to nights.

The bonus is now much less flexible, and in most cases is of reduced value.

This status match is one of the more disappointing things that will come of this merger.

SPG Gold is the equivalent of marriott silver, yet SPG golds are given marriott gold. .

SPG 50 night platinum is the equivalent of marriott gold, yet 50 night plats are given marriott plat status.

Marriott platinum is the equivalent of SPG 75 night platinum, but marriott plats are given 50 night plat

Marriott gold is the equivalent of 50 night plat, and marriott golds are given spg gold.

If you mean with the credit card, no, you won't.

SPG earning stays the same. Marriott earning stays the same, but you can transfer points between the programs

3 Marriott points = 1 SPG point.
