I messed up my amex 3x cli..

So i read on here some people were able to get a cli upon activation. So i tried and they said nope. So i tried for my 3x cli on the 61st from reciving the card. They said nope because i already applied when i got the card...so do i wait another 91 days?

If I remember correctly, you have to wait 6 months now. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it works with amex

Yes, you need to wait the 91 days to try again. It's not that big of a deal though as it is just an extra month to wait. The CLIs upon activation are few and far between and the vast majority of people should just wait the 61 days to try.

That's incorrect. The 6 month wait is after being approved for a CLI. It is 91 days if denied.

My experience is that you don't have to wait 6 months if it was a denial. You just have to wait until their internal scoring model qualifies you. No idea how long that will actually be however.

What happened with me was like a month into having the card I scheduled a payment for ~800. Forgot about it and the next day again scheduled another similar payment. Called Amex after I realized the mistake and they said I had to call my bank to block payment because once it was scheduled, their system would keep trying up to 3 times I think they said. I did just that and all was dandy.

So, after the 60 days, I requested a CLI and was denied the letter I got stated that the reason for the denial was that they tried to collect payment recently and were unable to. I waited an additional 2 months and got approved for the CLI. Seems a denial doesn't set back the clock. You have to actually be apprroved for the clock to start.

Would the 91 days start from the iniital reqest in August? Or does the 91 days start over again since I requested in October?

Now that is strange. When I got my BCE card I called and asked for a CLI upon activation and they gave me a date when I would be eligable for an increase and it was 61 days. So I tried on day 62 and got the 3X increase.

I'll give my recent experience, as I just did this last month. I tried two days early from the 61 days and I was denied. I called AMEX and the guy told me I tried too early and to try again (he gave me the specific date). The date he gave me was 62 days after my account had been created. I tried again then (like 3 days later), and I get 3x CLI approved on the spot.

91 days from the date you activated it since it was a denial at that time. I did the same thing and it's not 6 months. The 6 month rule is for approved CLI's.

Be very careful about what date you use. There are folks on here who report continuing to try for an AMEX CLI, trying again within the 91 days, and re-starting the denial wait clock again. Multiple times.

I would tend to think your recent request may have re-started the clock for 91 days, but hopefully AMEX can confirm for you.

I did the exact same thing. I decided to play it safe and counted 91 days from the 2nd denial. It was hard, because I read here that you can try at 91 days after being denied at 61 days. I am glad I waited, I got the 3x increase, no problem. That's my expierence. Good luck to you

The 91 day clock doesn't reset if you try again early. Just wait until the right date and try again and it works just fine instead of waiting another 90 days. Been there, done that.
