I just got approved online for a Amex Blue cc...Credit Line is for $2000......Should get the card in about 10 days... I really want to get a CLI for that hopefully 2000 more.....How would I go about getting them to increase it...Do I wait until I get the card, activate it first then ask? Or do I ask before I activate it?????? And would they have to pull me credit report again to do that?????....

Congrats on the Blue. It's a great card. Just my 2 cents, but I would wait a bit before asking Amex to do a CLI. Use the card a bit, and build some history with them. The way they have been behaving lately, I'd worry your request would trigger an Adverse action.

Congrats Again!

first of all congrats!! Blue can be a great card depending also on your willingness and ability to play by amex rules, which can be tricky these days.

sorry to be a wet blanket but as far as a cli, slow down turbo with amex, you really wanna just chill, at least for the first year. work with what they gave you. an exception may be if you have v. high income and spotless clean report 760+ in any case, i'd use the card regularly and pif and hope they don't switch gears because you have the wrong mortgage lender or address or frequent the wrong stores or aren't using enough of your cl or are using too much or paying too slow. recent reports from some fico high achiever pif card holders indicate AA as well.

for some of us, our amex memberships in recent months have been defined somewhat by our efforts to avoid becoming another amex AA target. this is not the time to be clamoring for a cli at activation with amex, not by a long shot. you've got to develop a proven track record over time to begin to explore their willingness to extend you more than they've already offered imo. congrats once again and GL!!!

Message Edited by score_building on 01-17-2009 05:50 PM

Well my Eq score is 646 and thats with 1 collection...I only know my Ex faco score is 733 thats without any collection..And My TU has 2 collctions, so I know that didnt pull that one..I was hoping they pulled Ex because I know even though I havent gotten my fico score for that one just yet, it is my best score because it has no collections with everything else on it great...

I was hoping for a higher Credit line....But still havent decided what I should do about that just yet

Right now I would very stongly advise NOT asking for a CLI on your Blue. I think they now need 6 months before they will give one (I may be wrong), but I would suggest 13 months of frequent use and perfect payment should get you to the right place.

i agree with MV, do not ask for a cli. With the scores you have, i am a bit surprised they gave it to you. Dont rock the boat. They might FR you and then take the card away.

Be good to it and hopefully it will be good to you in 2012 (the way amex is right now, it will be in the year 2012 before they are nice again lol)

it's been reported SOMETIMES amex pulls other reports, in my experience it's always been EX.

so you just have to hope they only use EX for you constantly, but it's not the CLI I would worry about, it's the monthly reviews, the review guidelines for accounts seems to be different than the approval guidelines.
