IMO, you can have one or the other. I'd transfer the diamond limit to the DC and close it. You can ask for an APR reduction, and I believe Citi is pretty excellent with that sort of thing, but YMMV.

Thanks. Would you try to do both at the same time or combine/close and then call later for the rate reduction? I'm thinking they may from on doing both at the same time

I'm thinking of doing just this, with my Citi Dividend and Citi DoubleCash. One call, and no luck.

I haven't given up hope.

Dont see why not. Just pc the dividend to the doublecash, combine limits, and close. If it were me, I would PC to the diamond preferred. Gets tons of offers every 2 months for random 5% off $500 categories as well as other apr promos and recurrent 17-19 month 0% bt offers.

It's not as easy to combine limits as indicated in this thread. Front lines CSRs almost always will tell you that it cant be done so you need to find a supervisor and even then it can be problematic. If you find someone willing to do it, there will be an HP.

They mostly likely will transfer you to card specialist/retention specialist who can offer some retention incentive and can at times transfer credit line if you decide to close. I have it done with Chase, Amex but not sure if Citi is the same with allocating credit line upon closing card.
