Amex CLI every 6 months?

After you are approved for cli how long until you can request again? I heard 6 months but just wanna make sure. I'm sitting on 5 1/2 months since my last cli...thanks for any input.

It's 6 months. If you call, they should be able to give you the date for your next attempt.

If you're early they deny it and say it's because you didn't wait long enough. BUT that doesn't reset the clock or impose the 90 day rule. Just wait until the right date and do it agan for an approval!!

Yes, six months is the magical number. On my BCE, I requested the 3x CLI after 60 days and went from $2,000 to $6,000. Six months later, I requested another increase online and went to $10,000. My next request will come in February. I'm shooting for $20,000.

Thanks for this. This is exactly the information I needed. I was afraid I needed to wait 6 months and 1 day. I just requested a 3x increase at exactly 6 months and was approved. It's now my highest limit card.

NP, AMEX grows fast if they like your profile and can far exceed your other cards quite quickly.

180 days since last approval. 6 months may or may not be 180 days. After each CLI I immediately go to a time/date calculator website and enter 182 days just to be safe and that has never failed me. I do that for every creditor every time and make a reminder in my phone for when to attempt the next one.

Not to hijack this thread, but thought this seemed the appropriate place.

Another poster here on myfico earlier today said;

I opted to speak with a rep and she looked it up and said the reason was that I couldn't receive more than one credit increase in 6 months. She reviewed my account and saw that my last increase was in June. I did have an auto CLI on my HHonors card from 6 to 10k but she said that should not matter since the 6 months is per card (credit decision rep said opposite when I spoke to her later)

Can Pooka or anyone else shine the truth on which is correct when it comes to more than one card for CLIs?

I'll give you the same reply that I did in the Amex 3X CLI Guide thread:

You dont need Pookah to answer this one. Credit limit increases for Amex are per your entire account, no matter how many cards you have with them. You can only recieve one user requested CLI every six months, and this is true whether you have one or 6 cards with Amex. If any Amex rep told you or anyone else otherwise they were mistaken which unfortunately often is the case. Credit reps with Amex and other creditors are often unfamiliar with their own companies' guidleines and provide inaccurate information.

As a side note, auto CLIs from Amex do not count toward any 6 month rule. The guidelines only apply to user initiated requests.

This question has arisen hundreds of times before and the 'rules' have not changed.

Thanks for "shining the light" on this topic. I too as well was told conflicting statements from the CSRs when I had called in this evening as I was going to give my other card a shot. Now I don't have to worry for another 5 months.

You're welcome. It is unfortunate that far too often people are given erroneous information and I wish these frontline Amex reps were better trained. If they all had the knowledge that Pookah does, we would be much better off. I feel bad for other consumers that dont use resources like MF and automatically assume that if a rep tells you something it must be true.

I'm sure the answer to this is here somewhere, so, I apologize in advance.

So, 3x CLI every 6 months PER ACCOUNT? If I ask for a CLI on my Delta Platinum, I have to wait another 6 mos before I can ask for CLI to my SPG? Or I can ask for CLI to all revolvers at the same time?

I guess if its per CARDHOLDER, it's just logical to ask for a 3x CLI to the one with the highest SL, correct? In my case, I should ask for a CLI to the Delta Reserve ($3,100 to $9,300) instead of the SPG ($1000 to $3000).

It's simple.... pick one of your accounts you want to 3X on and then if approved you wait 180 days and pick another acocunt or the same account to grow it more. If you're over the required age to reallocate from one another then you can rebalance your limits through the online request.

Off topic question, does anybody know someone I can ask how to use my rewards / points? I guess somebody that uses rewards, miles, points for travel a LOT. I have a post on smorgasbord but no one has replied to it. I'll just direct message the person if anybody can direct me to the right person. Austinguy, thanks for the comprehensive guide on this. Finally, got my 1st 3x CLI on my AmEx Delta Reserve. 3100 to 9300. Instant approval !!!THANKS !!!!

I figure I'd try to request another CLI on my Delta Platinum and see what response I get. This is informational to everyone regarding AMEX 3x CLI.

Ok I will clarify

I f you open a new account you can ask for a increase on day 61 after your approval, after that is every 6 months

Important the amex x3 only works up to $24,000 depending on your internal score, after 25K your at risk of a FR (Finacial Review).

Worked for me, just 6 mins ago i applied for a cli on my bce card from 9000 to 25000, they countered with 21,600 which i accepted

Another 6 months and ill apply to get my everyday card limited increased from 1000 to 3000.

@If it's your 1st card you can hti the CLI @ 61 days

It's 6 months from the last approved CLI

The old 24K thing is not in existence and certainly isn't a FR. A FR is much more intensive in documentation and questions than a 4506 increae which seems to be within the first year or so somewhere around #34.5K before asking for the POI. Older accounts go well into the 50-75K range without being pressed for POI because they have longer transactional history built with AMEX.
