I have a CapOne secured card that I stopped using because I've gotten approved for other cards that offer rewards - not to mention the it's stuck at a $500 limit. I haven't closed becasue it's my oldest card. Will they close for it being inactive and if so how long? Should I just set up some small reoccuring bill and pay it off every month? Any thoughts are appreciated. :-)

I would call for a product change, they're good with that. I have a Plat card, because Cap One bought out HSBC accounts, use it twice a year, but it is an older account for me. My AAOA is 1.8, so I'm trying to grow that. Give them a jingle.

Just close it if you have no use for it and get your security deposit back.. It will report on your credit for the next 10 years regardless and by then your credit won't need that account any longer even if it is your oldest account. My 2 cents.

The GF has a Cap one secured card I requested she stop using. It hasn't been used in over two years. Safe to say you have nothing to worry about. Lol

I've went several years at a time without using my unsecured Cap one. They have your money, so why would they voluntarily give it back? As long as you don't owe them..Chances are they could care less. This is one of the things I really like about them.

Right after I graduated high school, I had a Capital One platinum (or whatever the equivalent at the time was) that went missing with a stolen wallet. The card was shut off, but never replaced and I forgot about it.

This last October I noticed a credit line for 500 dollars on my report. Come to find out, a credit line I hadn't used in ten years was still open. I called them up and managed to get a replacement card issued. The account was old enough it didn't have an email address associated with it.

Haven't swiped for a decade, got it converted to Quicksilver.
