Amazon Prime Upgrade Email & Screenshots

got an email today from Chase and looks like they've made a few changes. I do like the updated look (quicksivler) lol checked the link that redirected me to my amazon account and it showed the new card as my default card. i guess it got upgraded

It totally looks like the Quicksilver, but in another thread they were saying it is a metal card. If so, it looks pretty cool!

i hadnt notice the metal chat until reading a few other posts here. i'm curious to see what it will feel like compared to my ritz infinite...

kind of interesting they made it have no foreign transaction fees... it's not really something you'd want to use abroad really.

+1...it seemed like an odd feature to boast about for a card that's never really been socialized as a card you would take abroad. I read the announcement and thought...."awwwkward" haha

There are actually a lot of people who are Amazon devotees but not credit card aficionados. They use their cards everywhere because they are brand-loyal to Amazon (think of it as wearing your favorite sports team's jersey), and a good enough number of them travel for Chase and Amazon to keep them in the fold so they don't go wondering elsewhere because of the FTFs.

I'm almost thinking...

-They relaxed the approval criteria (That is pretty much a given, there have been a lot of borderline approvals that would be deials in the past )

-They are pushing it to the masses as a rewards card, with much better everyday rewards than any current MC/Visa offering from anyone else

-They are trying to get it to be the daily driver for the less-informed

Amazon is a multinational company, it may simply be paving the way towards future use cases. Maybe. I will say a crapload of people based on anecdotal reports from me and others seem to swipe this card anyway, and if you're out of the country and swiping as an average consumer, it's a useful benefit I guess.

In any event I'll be taking mine on the year long tour around the world as a backup card, it's basically as good for my purposes as my Quicksilver if my primary two get stolen or whatever and when I really think about it I take at least two issuers everywhere in case one has a network or fraud booboo, so 2 backup cards makes rational sense to me at any rate. It's getting left in my room of course by default.

I suppose that's true... getting too used to credit-savvy folks who would rather use a more dedicated travel card. I have 10 cards with no FTF, for example, and would probably rather use any of them over the Amazon Visa (for abroad spending that is).

Yeah, I've been a hardcore cash-backer for most of my credit life and haven't picked up a bunch of no FTF cards that accure naturally with points and bonus offers.

Only now with this job am I really looking into what maximing points can do for me. As a result even with the 17 revolvers I still have open currently, only 4 have no FTF. I'm a pretty serious outlier compared to consumer norms, but I'm guessing most don't have a dedicated suite of travel cards either... incidently 2 of the 4 were opened within the last month and it's hard to call the Amazon Visa a travel card to be sure, but it's servicable as a worst case scenario tradeline.

If I were really smart I'd go get a UNFCU card too as I suspect I may be spending a lot of time in Europe, but think I'll wait for a bad experience before that happens where I can't get a replacement credit card quickly enough... or bum cash from a co-worker temporarily or something.

I'm a little bitter that they have true prime benefits now. I wish I dont have the synchrony card. I only have my BoA travel card and discover for international travel. I don't travel enough to get specific travel cards but it would be nice to have another no FTF in my wheelhouse.

I'm happy for the changes. As someone with both the Syncrhony Prime Store card and the Chase card, this means both are now useful. I can use the Chase card for 5% cash back (with a better interest rate if I feel I need to carry a small balance), and use the Synchrony card just for 6-12-24 financing.

Re: No FX - this might actually reflect the fact that J.P. Morgan Chase also underwrites Amazon's corporate travel card for employees. So maybe they're preparing to collapse those two programs into one? Just speculation.

The No FTF thing makes sense for folks that shop online... Esp if Amazon doesnt have what they are looking for...

Or if a foreign Amazon offers what they are looking for.....

I only currently have one card with no FTF and its a Discover... so the no FTF on it does make it a bit more tasty for online shopping in general...

Right, but it's a 1% card on those transactions. Quicksilver would be better for that type, especially as we have seen it doesn't give 5% on foreign Amazon sites

I hit the "replace card" button on 01/14 - the new card showed up today (not sure how they turned it around so fast considering i submitted it on a saturday, holiday and monday), but it got here. its not silver...i'd describe it more as a gun metal color..which i like better than silver

I received mine in the mail yesterday after hitting the replacement card button.

It is metal. This is my first metal card so it's a bit heavier than regular plastic cards. It reminds me of the Discover It cards. The card isn't a true black. It's more a dark Grey.

I hit the replacement card button the day the card was announced. Amazon had updated my payment wallet to say my Visa would receive 5% back, but Chase didn't reflect that yet. I got the card yesterday and it was still the blue plastic version, and the mailer said I was getting 3% back. Only when I logged in to Chase again did I see the Amazon Prime logo. I also had Customer Service confirm via e-mail that I was receiving 5%. Guess I have to order a second replacement card.
