Comenity Shut Down!

Just opened my Orbitz Visa Sig. used it for the first time today -Declined!! Called and said I would get a letter . My Express which is 17 years old, TR Visa and FRMC are fine. Why bother sending a card and going through verification wasting time. Just decline and be over it

Interesting. This is the first datapoint I've seen of them only closing one card when you have others with them, maybe it's secondary verification? I'm curious to see what the letter says.

This happened to me a few years ago with one of the Mastercards (I want to say it was Gander Mountain) I got from the shopping cart trick. None of my other accounts were closed and the letter just cited too many inquiries.

Be interesting to see if they close the others at a later date. Seems they're very twitchy about their visas and mastercards.

I once had 12 Comenity cards. Still have Sportsman's Guide Visa and Total Rewards MC. Got preapproved for Red Roof Inn Visa, Coldwater Creek MC and others recently. Someone earlier left a post that World Market MC was now a popup but I didn't get it when I tried the SCT. I am happy with my two Comenity co-branded cards and will leave it at that.

My other cards actually escaped unharmed. I was fully expecting them to completely shut my accounts down, but it was just that one card. Oddly enough they pre-approved me for the Gander Mountain MC 6 months ago, I accepted and it remains intact. They're just a really odd lender and the CSRs aren't empowered to do anything other than read the computer.

They've done this before, especially when they first started cracking down. Several forum posts about Comenity killing a person's majors, but leaving the store cards intact. There's less risk in a store card.

I just called again this morning, my total rewards Visa, Fuel rewards MasterCard and Express are all fine. They close the Orbitz and they won't tell me why, they said it'll be in the letter. They don't have access to what is in the letter

Interesting fact #2- I called the robo lady to get account balance etc, on my 3 Comenity cards. They kept trying to transfer me to a CSr. I spoke with a CSR and he said all my accounts (except Orbitz) were fine however there was a flag on the accounts and he would remove it. I asked what the flag was and he said it had to do with the Orbitz account closure but he then stated that it is just a technical error and I can use my cards with no problem

I would also try to use it since the flag removal has been taken off from your accounts etc

I honestly think since I have a 17 year old express card (use to be structure way back when) is the reason I didn't lose all my accounts , only the new one. My TR Visa has a 3k limit and FRMC has 1k. My new orbitz was 6k

Sorry for the closure op, i think Comenity is definitely on my short list of banks not to get too many accounts with. Its surprising considering they work alot with retail stores..
