So I just learned I am staring at about 55 nights of hotel stays between here and the end of the year. After doing some planning it seems the majority of the places I will be going has Hilton properties in a much better proximity to where my needs will be focused.

So is the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card worth it for immediate gold status?

How do you feel the HHonors system is versus Marriott Rewards?

If you're hitting nothing but Hiltons, then I would get the card. Hilton Honors Gold gives you free breakfast! Although Honors points are harder to get. They aren't as rewarding as some of the other programs. But automatic Honors Gold status with the card would be worth the annual fee. You get two free nights anywhere as a sign up bonus. It doesn't matter which level the hotel is. My wife and I stayed in the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan.

I've never been able to spend much on the card to get free nights. On the other hand, Marriott Rewards gives you an annual free night, but only Silver Elite status which is pretty much worthless. However, if you are SPG Gold, Marriott will automatically match it with Marriott Gold which is comparable to Hilton Honors Gold with free breakfast, etc. I do think Hiltons are a bit classier than some Marriotts. But Marriott has more hotels, especially after the merger with SPG.

Bottom line, if you're going to be staying primarily at Hiltons, it makes sense to get rewarded for it.

You get free breakfast on any Hilton affiliated hotels and free nights?

I just got my HHonors Gold Status from my Amex Platinum card and haven't fully reviewed the benefits. So far, I've see special pricing for HHonors Gold status members.
