Help!!! I just pre-qualified for Chase!!!!

myFICO'ers please please please help. I can not believe this. I just made a post complaining that i never can get Chase nor Citi to pre-qualify me. Here is the post. http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/I-never-rec-pre-qual-from-Chase-nor-Citi/m-p/4852569#M1415406

Well what do you think just happened? I tried Chase and it said, "Choose one of your pre-qualified offers"!! I am in a daze! It;'s offering Freedom, Slate, and Sapphire. I have no idea what to choose. My scores according to myFico are all 670. One collection and some lates in 2014 are my baddies. Should I go for the Freedom cause it's easiest? Or do I have a shot at the other two since it's in the pre-qual. I litterally have the screen still opened and waiting for folks to respond to this post. I won't close it because I might not ever get it again. We will debate what finally triggered a later LOL (I think I know what triggered the pre-qual).

Usually Chase prequal offers are solid, so it's a question of which card will fit your lifestyle the best, Sapphire for travel etc.

Hmm in that case then they might result in denial for 5/24, although I have heard of cases where prequals were able to override 5/24. Maybe somebody with more insight can chime in?

I am going to exclude the Sapphire because it says. "EARN 50,000 BONUS POINTS after you spend $4,000 spent on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening* I am trying to spend mostly on a new Amex to meet the offer it came with. So spending $4000 won't happen.

you have a prg, time to pick a side. $4K is easy, pay your cell, cable and all insurance for the year but I don't think this is an offer

If this is a solid offer I will do sapphire. if its not Ill do slate. So please confirm that this is a solid offer and I will be approved. I tried to pre qual yesterday and nothing! So this means today is my first day of the pre-qual. I should be approved? OR should I just go for the Freedom because it's easier?

Do what best fits your needs. You won't get any extras with Slate minus a good BT option. Pre-quals are just that, pre-quals. Chase ones are pretty good, like Amex ones, but it's not a guarentee and anyone who confirms you will get it is quite honestly guessing. Honestly in the long run it's just a HP, so why not try for the one you will get the most use out of?

Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but the reason someone should get a CC is because the card will be of use to them. Just because you're pre-qualified for Chase cards doesn't mean you should get one. It all depends on what you would use the card for. Based on that you would decide on whether or not any of them suit that need.

I get it that you're excited seeing those pre-quals for the first time with your 670 score. I really do. Don't let that excitement cloud sound judgement though. You seem to be far more concerned with which card you could get approved for (which is "easiest" that you'd have the best chances getting) than considering which card, if any, would be of use to you. I would take a step back and consider everything before proceeding. There's no point in pulling the trigger on a card that a year from now you don't use at all, so just make sure that if you do apply for one of these cards that it's the right move for you.

Don't worry about the offer going away. If your profile/score is strengthening, which I imagine is the case of most of our forum members, whatever offers you see now will likely be there in the future and possibly with even better terms. Waiting IMO can only be a positive thing in this situation.

It has to be solid because it finds nothing for me and that is how me and Chase roll. I agree though, only get the card if it is useful to you, not just to have a new one. I would do Freedom based on cash back but if CSP is better for you, go for it. I agree about Slate though, I have it and other than balance transfers, its a useless card.

1) Chase prequals are solid. If they show, your app will be approved...
2) ...except if you're over 5/24. 5/24 is the master rule. If you're over 5/24, you will be denied. Prequals are not considering 5/24 when they give you one.
3) If you can apply in branch, the likelihood of approval to bypass 5/24 is much higher. You want to ask the banker then to check again, noting if there is a firm APR offer on the screen. If you get an APR range, this loophole will not work.
4) If you do not benefit from the categories or terms of the card, do not get it. You'll end up with a laundry of useless cards for no reason. Not the best way to get started on prime cards!

The Chase main page "check if your prequalified" is a crap shoot, especially over 5/24. "Your Offers" on an individual chase log on are dang near bulletproof, have only seen one who didn"t get approved and that was cause they applied for a freedom when they had already had one within 24 months. There are some tell-tale signs on the main prequal page though, click the "offer terms" link under each card. If it is a range, and you are over 5/24, DOA. If it a specific APR and under 5/24, good to go, over 5/24, tough, but better odds than vegas. And if you are denied the silver lining is you can still apply immediately after for a non 5/24 co-branded card like hyatt, ritz, disney, amazon and still most likely get an approval with scores and card history in your signature. So either way you have probably a 90% or better shot of at least getting something out of your HP.

You have yet to start on the spend for a PRG? No, don't get any of the Chase cards. AMEX bonus spend is hard enough to get through. Don't add the multiple card burden.

And yes, there is harm done if you don't get a bonus. It means a wasted app cycle, in the case of AMEX, for the once per lifetime cycle, for the Chase, once per few years at least.

Congrats on the prequal, but it will be there later, and more likely to get it if you are well under 5/24.
