I have been using the Amex everyday on my groccery spend. It gets me 2 points for every dollar spent and then a 20% bonus if I have 20 or more transactions in the billing cycle. I am going to change this for the next year because I just got the amex business blue which will earn me 2 points on every dollar spent on grocceries and a 30% bonus on all spend at the end of the year. So I'll have to wait longer to collect but will get 10% more points. Both these cards are non-AF. What other cards do people use for groceries? I could look at the amex everyday preferred but that has an AF and I would need to do the math again to see the break point for the amount spent to offset the AF.

Amex preferred for the 6%. At the grocery store buying fuel gift cards boost spend if you drive a lot. The math works for me but I don't know if I can get the card yet. Denied 2 times…

MR points are different than cashback rewards structure. If you travel you can make the points worth more. If you decide on the points card then you can apply for the PRG same HP, and get a huge bonus

I don't eat out all that often (3 or 4 times a month), and do a lot of cooking at home. I spend around $100-180/wk on groceries.

I use the Amex BCP... 6% CB on the first $6,000 of grocery spend annually (which is $360/yr)... that more than offsets the annual fee, as I'm sure I'll max it out (or come very close).

I do a lot of shopping at Walmart and Target which don't "count" as grocery stores, but I feel I save more money that way vs going to a "real" grocery store for a higher percentage back. If you are paying more than 2-3% more (which is likely for many items) for the items by buying them at a real grocery store, you're better off just getting them at a "discount store" even if you don't get the extra points.

When I do go to actual grocery stores for a few items I use my BOA card, 2% back, which is the same as you get with a Double Cash so not hugely exciting but there aren't a lot of great grocery options out there right now.

Our grocery spend is on the larger side so we've been using the Amex OBC. However, whenever possible I use discounted gift cards at Whole Foods, as these give a bigger discount without the hassle of the stupid reward system

Target RedCard (Debit) and Citi DC. I don't have enough grocery spend (usually max $300 a month at an actual grocery store) to merit having another CC that gives a better bonused spend, plus I'm guessing Freedom will have a quarter this year that has groceries as its bonus category - which I will definitely be using for groceries if that is the case.

I shop at Giant Eagle and my wife shops at Kroger. We have both the BCP and EDP. We currently use the Everyday Preferred. Gets 3 points back on grocery. Since it's our 'other category' card as well, it easily surpasses about 50+ swipes a statement which then gets us 4.5 points back. On top of that, I have Biz Plat and I only redeem MR points for flights. With the 50% rebate, it then becomes 9 points. So 9pts per $1 spent. Great return.
