I've never done this other than when opening a new card. I'm going to be closing my hyatt card and it has a large credit line. I would like to keep as much of that credit as possible. What is the best method of moving credit from one chase card to another (calling in, online messages, etc)? Can I move credit to multiple cards? Are there any rules? Like I want to move some credit to my new CSR since Im not happy with a 10k credit line, does the receiving card need to be open for a period of time? Anything I need to be mindful of?

Not sure whats prompting Chase to do that or what seems to be flagging those account holders, but they've closed out the requested card AND reduced lines on other cards. I had not seen that from Chase before so I'd be mindful of asking to move multiple lines around at this given time..of course YMMV. hope that helps

She had at the time around 30k of revolving debt, 39% overall util and like 7 inquiries in last 12mo. She reduced debt to like 2k, no inquiries in last 12mo and util at less than 10% and Chase restored her limits. I would only advise moving limits with Chase if inquiries are low to none in last 12mo and most balances $0 and overall util low (<10%)

If there's anything in your profile that would cause concern (high inqs, high util, whatever) then it's advisable not to call or SM and ask to move limits because you're just basically asking for an account review which may not end in your favor. Moving limits is basically a CLI as far as the lender is concerned and they want to make sure everything is in good (risk free for them) shape before they honor your request.

So if your util is low and such you should be fine, but utilize common sense. If you have, say, three maxed out cards, I'd wait. I assume this does not apply to you.

as i read all those post, SM to chase, message will be forward to landing for account review every time, if you have nothing to worry about your account with chase, you can do it this way. By calling chase to move CL, some front line CSR will do it for you instantly, some will forward you to lending Dept.also,at that time,if you feel uncomfortable, you can simply hang up, and deal with it later. I talked to lending people, it was quite painless, got it done in less than a minute.

Bah just got a letter from Chase today that they took 10k from my hyatt card to open up the CSR, so I might just ask to see if they can move as much of the rest as possible over to the CSR and close out the hyatt. I am clearly at my ceiling with Chase. I have an ink card with an AF that just hit that I may close since I have two ink cards, so that should free up 10k for a future app.

I have called many times in the last 6 months and have cards PCed along with limits moved around many times without issues.. Granted I have alot of inquires and meh scores and meh reports, but only about 500 balance on CC's when doing so and a fairly high income. Pretty sure utilization and DTI plays a huge role wehther or not they look into CL reallocation as an issue or not and whether it is painless or becomes an issue.

So I called chase and closed my hatt card. There were no retention offers and I already got credited the annual free night so I saw no reason to hold the card for a third year. They would not PC it to anything and out of the 11k credit that was left on the card they would only move over 2k and change, which was a bit annoying. Still in a way I guess its ok because it lowers my available credit with chase and should help in a few months when I reapply with chase for a new hyatt card. .
