Does anyone know or have herd if SPG card is being merged with Marrott / Ritz?

No one knows, but you better bet if Amex has anything to say about it they will fight to their last breath to keep the SPG card or sell the portfolio for a ton of money, but suspect they want to keep the card. How all the details work out is anyones guess as we aren't aware of how the contracts, etc are written. Amex lost Costco, JetBlue last year and doubtful they wan to lose another big co-branded cc especially a very popular one

I think that Marriott wants to keep Amex because it gives them an additional customer base with high travel spend w/ SPG and Platinum card members. I have stayed at 14 Marriotts on travel since having gold status. 2 stays gave me 6k MR points from a Amex offer.

I was a big Hyatt fan but I all my stays are now w/ SPG, Marriott and Hilton because of Amex.

Have they won any new cobranded deals? I don't think the Schwab cards got many apps.

My hope is that it will end up something like the AA/USAir Merger, where Barclay's held onto their cardmembers and converted their USAir cards to AA cards.

It was something I asked Thom Kozik when I met with him in september a few days before the merger. His answer was simply "Lovely weather we're having." so my guess is it was something that was at least discussed.

That is definitely the best case scenario as it creates competition between the two banks, especially if the Amex Marriott card becomes open for new applicants, like the AAdvantage Aviator cards have recently.
