If I applied for my Amex on 1/5 and it was instantly approved and let me set up my account online-showed the account that day online..... does that mean my account was opened on 01/05?

I know that sounds retarded but I'm wondering if they don't technically open it until you activate the card.

My first charge was made on 01/11

Trying to figure out my 61 day mark.

+1. I was approved on 1-12 and when I was checking out my account on the site it stated 'member since 1-12'. My 61 days is 3-14 (maybe 16, one of the 2) so yours should be 7 days before that.

It is a very YMMV situation. Some people ave been able to get a 3X CLI as soon as account activation or well before the 61 days and others have been told that they need to wait the two months. Unfortunately Amex has been very inconsistent with this 'rule' and there is no way to tell ahead of time but I would assume that the stronger your credit scores are the better your chances of getting one ahead of time.

There will be some updates to the 3X CLI thread here shortly to reflect this but again it is very user dependent on whether it applies or not.

I think I'll hold out for the 61 even if it doesn't exist anymore. If it wasn't this week (or next technically) I might try but might as well wait at this point.

When in doubt, waiting is better. There's plenty of other things to do around here while counting down the days! Personally I pick dates that are easy to remember like the 1st and 15th or whatever like that. Just grab a cold one and relax.

I'm waiting until the 91 day mark just to be safe ( which is on Saturday ). I've been spending like crazy on my ED card w/ $1000 starting CL and paying it off. Meanwhile I've been paying down other cards to lower my utilization even further. Ultimately I feel really good about getting 3X CLI along with coming back to them at 181 days for another request.
