WTH is Dinning on Discover/Freedom this year?

Where is dining on the Discover/Freedom this year at? Are they just skipping it as it is to costly for them as more people use that cat and tend to max it? Thoughts? Doubt we will see it in 3rd or 4th quarter, but i could be wrong..

When I still had the Discover I found it useless anyway. Roughly 50% of restaurants I went to didn't take Discover.

Between Freedom/Discover 99% would take one or the other or both.. Just depends where you live, but surely most take Visa and I would venture to say most nice places take Discover as well.. Only places I have found that don't take Amex or Discover are usually cheap fast food places that one is better off not eating at for health reasons. Is that real chicken or parts to make a chicken sandwich sir?

My experience is different. Discover was rejected at multiple expensive restaurants in NYC and San Francisco. They were happy to take Amex.

Odd, I eat out a lot in NYC and never have had an issue with discover.

Wasn't dining Q3 last year on Freedom? I'm just happy to get away from this gas station stuff and on to something else. I only drive 15 miles a day and my wife won't use her Freedom to get gas since she has a gas card.

We're still in Q1, no hurry.

btw. I feel that citi forward change(always 5% for restaurants -> 2%) could make chase/discover less motivated to give 5% back for restaurants.

Last year dining was 3rd quarter on Freedom. And Discover had Home Improvement in 3rd quarter 2016, which is 2nd quarter this year, so I assume dining will be 3rd quarter this year there as well.

AJC: I thought all Mcdonalds' took Discover; however, I now know thanks to you they do not and that my card was not broken the other day! I just kept sliding it and sliding it and sliding it ( the cashier was to busy checking out my lady friend to help me find out why my card would not work) needless to say after the 5th swipe I said my god and grabbed my Chase Amazon Prime and slid it...

Maybe, but I don't know how many legacy Forward card holders there were (although I guess enough for Citi to decide to make the change!)

I think Discover will probably do it in Q3, since Home Improvement is Q2 this year (last year, it was flipped).

It's a more "common" and "popular" type of category, though, so I wouldn't be shocked to see it nixed. Compared to things like home improvement or wholesale clubs, where you probably go only occasionally but may or may not make a large purchase, a lot of people eat out constantly, which means more 5% to pay out.

The 5% thing in general is gimmicky and annoying to me, but Discover is my oldest card, largest limit, and lowest APR, so I keep them around.

I'll have you know, the new Burger King Crispy Chicken sandwich is made with 100% white meat chicken filet. Filet... now thats quality.

Don't choose the "chicken" nuggets, though. Just... don't.

FWIW, AMEX is doing 10% back at restaurants for new BCE cardholders (app by sometime in May). Up to $200 in CB, like the Amazon deal they just had.

Depdep, lol, at least where i live , McDonalds doesnt take Discover! Madness i tell you, we must look nuts , everyone else talking about "real" food and restaurants and we're discussing quick fix. Ah well, so goeth my mind sometimes

My McD's takes Discover. All of our local McDs are owned by one franchise.
