I noticed in one of the other sections that this seems to be a very popular card. I checked it out and it I don't see anything overly attractive about it other than the AMAZING card designs... APR isn't attractive, no balance transfer deals and the rewards basic at best.

Are they generous with approvals and CL's? I am not looking to apply or anything like that. I'm just curious.

I can only speak for myself but it's the 3% dining and entertainment. And the Marvel designs are "cool".

It's your typical sync with cli. I have no complaints.

I really like the card but can understand why it wouldn't appeal to some.

Also its really nice to have people compliment the card when paying. I've gotten several "wow cool card"

So the Marvel card has 3% on dining (which includes Fast food). This is the highest amount one can get year round for dining. Yes there are a few other cards that get this amount, but many are geographically limited and therefore hard to get. It also gets 3% on entertainment which includes Humble Bundle store, Steam, PSN, Xbox store, Eshop, etc. This makes it a 3% gamers cards. Rewards are posted as a statement credit each month automatically. No min redemption, no need to request redemption, no AF, high rewards for people who eat out and enjoy gaming as a hobby make this an awesome card. And because Amazon usually counts as a bookstore, it can give 3% on Amazon.

Huntington Voice has I believe a $20 min redemption and only ONE category that gets 3%, the rest is 1%. Yes you choose the category, but a 2% card is better in many situations. Let alone many cards can cover the categories of the Huntington Voice with as much or better rewards. And the Cash+ card by US Bank covers many of the same categories. Personally, I see utilities and travel being the two categories that make the Huntington Voice tempting (but I am outside their area). Though I don't travel much and don't need a special card for utilities. If I did travel, I would try to find a way to try getting the card due to the no FTF.

I believe I read on these forums that Golden1 doesn't count Fast Food as dining and therefore the other cards you mention are usually better. And many cards require joining some organization or other hoops to get in the CU (and many seem to do a HP on joining, require a saving or other account with them, and sometimes x time of relationship with them before getting the card).

A card I really wanted was the Bank of the West card as it is 3% on gas, grocery, and dining. Where they credit the account every quarter with you rewards automatically, as no min redemption cards are very good for me, as that would not spread me too thin.

I am interested in the UMB Simply Rewards card, as I don't have a 3% grocery or gas card. And getting 3% on Target or Walmart purchase would be great. Though I don't know what the min remdemption for cash is and if it is in increments or not. Though I am thinking about the AMEX BCE card (I don't spend $3200 a year on groceries (yet) and don't MS after getting the signup bonus if need be). I know AMEX offers AMEX Offers and an upgrade bonus so it makes it tempting. I don't like the $25 increment only statement credit and that the credit doesn't cover the min balance due (so if I spend $25 one month on groceries, and redeem $25 in credit, I still have to pay $25 to pay the min due). My biggest question is how good are the AMEX offers? I probably will have to research and maybe make a thread about this to decide if it is worth getting another card for maximizing my rewards.

Culinarykid92, I recommend the Target Red card if you want a % off Target purchases... It's 5% automatically at the register no need to wait for a statement to cut.. You can get the Debit version of you do not want to waste a HP the Debit Red card does everything the credit version does

+1 for being good with Synch. I have WM ($6k), Amazon ($5k), TJX and AE ($3.5k) and Care Credit ($7k). All started with limits from $150 - $700 within a year.

And, I see too much AA from Chase that I personally don't think they are a good match for me. They seem sensitive to a lot of things where I don't have those issues with say, Synch or Capital One.

It's Synch so you KNOW it's TU being used and almost always, a CLI is a SP.

3% always is decent on dining/entertainment. We eat out a lot and visit movie theaters often (at least 2x a month and sometimes up to 6x if there's a bunch of good releases - like during the summer season).

The Shield card being pretty awesome. LOL!

Discounts on Marvel merchandise if that's your thing.

My APR is higher but of course that is solved by not carrying a balance, ever. I will say the sign-on bonus of $25 statement credit is weak.

I don't want the debit card as it isn't protected in case fraud charges are made. But I usually only go to Target like 4 times a year (usually buying a Target exclusive album and sometimes trail mix or other small things). I don't go enough to jusitify the HP. I do have a 2% cash back card though. I always keep the Redcard in my head since there is always a chance that doing my regular grocery spending there may be cheaper than a Stop and Shop with the 5% discount. I just haven't checked it out to do the math. Although a 15 minute drive to Target vs 2 to my local store may destroy any savings.

I already have two Synch cards, which is two too many for me.

Right, especially dining. 3% is pretty good as a number of year-round 5% options went away, so this and Chase AARP are among the top cashback rate/

As well as Security Service Power Travel, and NFCU GO Rewards, and UMB Simply Rewards (lots of banks have a version of this card).

And of course Huntington Voice, and Golden1 Platinum Rewards, and American Express Simply Rewards.

Or perhaps Lowes Business Rewards, or InFirst FCU Visa Rewards, or US Bank Business Edge Select...

There are an awful lot of alternatives in the ~3% cash back Dining category, now that 5% is only available for Fast Food on the US Bank cash+ card.

They aren't exactly equivalent, but the differences may not matter much, depending on your spend. The UMB Simply Rewards website specifically states that MCC codes 5812 (Restaurants) and 5814 (Fast Food) are eligible for 3X points. I went on chat with NFCU, and they also specifically listed 5812 & 5814 were eligible for 3X points for GO Rewards. Sync is generally more inclusive in the dining category. With Marvel (and Sam's Club), I've received 3X on 5811 (Caterers) and 5813 (Drinking Places).

I've most frequently come across the Caterer category if I go to an event that has a bartender. The "drinking places" category usually comes up when the SO and I go to a favorite bar of ours. Other bars may use that MCC code, if they don't use 5812.
